What is his concussion history? Just the one last year where he through a TD pass and then came out of the game? Or has he had more then that? If that's the only one then I'm not worried about it. It wasn't a bad concussion and he could have played the next week but Harbaugh wanted to go with Kapernick.

It just takes one to open that door like Chris Chandler and Troy Aikman.

Alex recovered pretty fast and it's been nine months since it happened so I don't see how he has any more of a risk then any other QB. I don't buy it as an issue or a negative with Alex. It's a non-factor.

It doesn't matter it still caused a cerebral contusion, and that never goes away totally. Especially the season after.

I'm with Clay on this to, I was pissed we gave a second round pick for him, then potentialy a second one. I was livid, take the damn chance on Geno if he busts he busts especially considering he dropped to the 2nd round. We will be marginally better this year but not by much. If Alex goes down we are screwed.

It wouldn't matter who the starting QB is if he goes down we're screwed. If Manning goes down the Donks are screwed and so on.....

Well Jersey49chief, let me tell you a story.

When I was but a wee lad in 1995 I put my faith in Steve Bono. Really believed he could take the Chiefs somewhere! Saw us go 13-3 and dammit, we were awesome, and Steve Bono did some nice things that year, and we could beat ANYONE.

And then Steve Bono pooped his pants in the playoffs. My faith was rewarded with a great big **** YOU.

So two years later we got Elvis Grbac. Oh man, I was excited. I got myself an Elvis Grbac jersey! And Elvis was the KING baby. He threw a game-winning TD pass on the last play against Oakland on MNF! The Chiefs were kicking ass that year!

And then Elvis pooped his pants in the playoffs. My faith was rewarded with a big **** YOU!

I actually continued to like Elvis after that, believed he could get the job done, and thought he would be our QB for years. I was convinced his 4,000-yard, 28-TD season in 1999 was proof of his greatness. He changed his number to #18, so I got another Grbac jersey.

And then he left for Baltimore. My faith was rewarded with a big **** YOU!

Then we got Trent Green. Now, he was something else. Threw for a lot of yards and we scored a lot of points. So, I got HIS jersey. And he was awesome in the playoffs, even though we lost. Later on he got his brains scrambled and stuff, but he had a good run in KC. I told myself, if we ever get a QB like him again, I'll support that guy.

Anyway, instead we got Brodie Croyle, and he sucked. But he never gave me much reason to believe in him so no ****s given.

Anyway, we DID get this guy named Matt Cassel. And I watched his Patriots games. And thought he looked pretty cool. I was probably the #1 Cassel defender in 2009 around here. I figured, Cassel did pretty well for his first year starting, and if Scott Pioli traded for him, he knows what he's doing.

And then over the course of the next two seasons, my confidence in Cassel slowly started to erode. I began to see that he simply couldn't play the position, and was a huge liability. I was waiting for that big FU!, but then something happened. Cassel played better.

For a few games, he was a decent QB. He reminded me a little bit of Green. Put up some numbers, we went to the playoffs. I decided to take one last leap of faith. I drove hundreds of miles to go to the Chiefs playoff game against the Ravens.

And Cassel turned in the worst playoff game of any QB we've ever had play for this team. I left a playoff game EARLY that day. My faith was rewarded with a big **** YOU!

So, I took a look at some of Alex Smith's games. I asked some of your fellow 49ers fans about him. I researched his statistics. And after analyzing all this data, I've come to one final conclusion:

**** YOU!

Thanks for some of the love fellas, and listen, I work in and live in Jersey, so trust me when i say, being able to chuck it up with a few planeteers, take a few shots, and give a couple is all in love and fun. I really don't take online chatting too serious. We love our team and regardless of what's said, that is the reoccuring theme i assume.

And i have no problem speaking my mind, or getting in heated debates. I mean I look at Alex like he's an improvement from what we've had the few couple of years. I find it funny sometimes when our GM, HC, and players feel that he's not the next coming, just yet, but that we all should be looking forward to seeing what he can do this year.

Someone also said should i not accept mediocrity. hmmm, when cassell came over from that year in NE, some were psyched, and what happened there. So we have someone that limits turnovers, recently within the past two seasons led the league in red zone %, either led or was tied with the most comback wins ago. And thats better than Casse's best season. So if this is mediocrity, then yes i accept it wholeheartedly and look forward to more.

So in saying what i mean. (as someone else in here said), why not give the guy a shot this season, and see what he can do, because it is FACT, that he's better than what we have had lately.

Listen, I like most of your posts and find your .gif very entertaining, but if you feel that jaded, maybe you should stop following football for a while or start following a different team.
