It got no attention when it happened and didn't even get all that much attention when it was reported but this is something I find very interesting. The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly worked out free agent guard Richie Incognito sometime this season. This according to Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com, who writes in a piece that both the Chiefs and Bucs (and now Broncos) worked Incognito out.
Here's the relevant line from Glazer's report:

Incognito visited the Chiefs and the Bucs this season and in both cases, each team got skittish after numerous calls from people inside the NFL were made and no deals were ever consummated.
Interesting. ESPN's Ed Werder reported the same. I'm not sure when this happened but given the Chiefs guard issues it's not all that stunning news. Chiefs guard Jeff Allen was hurt for the year, Mike McGlynn was signed shortly before the season and Zach Fulton is a sixth round rookie. So, yeah, due diligence is needed.
From a pure football standpoint, I'm interested in a guard like Incognito. But this is the real world and you obviously have to take into account some of the other issues that have surrounded Incognito. You know his name because he played up the road at Nebraska but you also know his name because he was involved in the bullying scandal in Miami. There were some odd stories that came out about Incognito during that time. That's what the "numerous calls from people inside the NFL" part likely references.
I'm probably in the minority by saying this but I don't really have a strong opinion on this either way. The Chiefs season isn't hinged on the play of one offensive lineman so it's not like this guy who hasn't played in a year is the savior. As for the off-the-field stuff, I don't know enough about Incognito's personal situation or the dynamics in the Chiefs locker room. Andy Reid has obviously gone out on a limb and signed players others have questioned (see: Vick, Mike). I will say that I'm glad the Chiefs did their due diligence.

"After receiving calls from multiple NFL insiders." What does this mean? I wonder if it was old coaches and teammates of Incognito warning them of personality issues, or if it was league officials advising them not to sign him because it's bad for the leagues image.
