How much of a (n intellectual property) pirate are you?

This is a spinoff of a thread in the media center, but I hope you'll indulge me and let it hang out here for a bit.

I'm just curious to see how the plethora of legal options to obtain movies, TV, and music has impacted piracy.

The basic idea is - do you obtain media for use in your home legally, or do you pirate it?

Poll on the way.

To answer the question, I usually just listen to new music on Youtube, the radio and Pandora so I don't do any pirating there.

I have no idea where to even find books online, plus I like the actual feel of having a book in my hands, so I wouldn't even think to pirate those.

When it comes to movies and television though, I am definitely a bit of a pirate. I don't have cable at my house (haven't for about 2 years now). I'm not a big TV watcher in the first place so its just not worth the $75 a month. I like to watch The Walking Dead and Supernatural, so sometimes I'll find a site to stream those, but generally just stick to Netflix.

I recently found a website to stream movies, some of which are still in theaters, and with great quality too, so I've been using that for a while now. Truthfully, I don't even really feel that bad about it; I've known about the site for about 2 months now and I've only watched 2 movies. Sue me...

I've bought "It's a Sunshine day" by the Brady Bunch as an LP, 8 track, audio cassette and CD.
They were all stolen by my “friends”.
I've scoured the country looking for any iteration... I had no choice ... I... had... no... choice...

I don't have any pirated shit. About 5 years ago I seen a link here to watch 'I Am Legend' on Christmas Day. I got about 15 emails and I thought the Motion Picture Association and the ****ing FBI were coming to take me away.

I'm pretty sure downloading a song is worse punishment than a catholic priest raping boys. so, legally.

Occasionally a tv show if I miss it, it isn't available on demand and isn't replaying. But not often. Nothing else, no movies or software or anything.

Never pirated a movie. Have watched a few ppv ufc streams. Maybe 200 or so songs per year, inflated by the ease of getting more than the specific song I want with torrents.

I can honestly say that a tiny fraction of it (if any at all) would have gotten my money if the means to get it free didn't exist. Not sure what the significance of that is.

Download a lot of music illegally. Buy stuff I really like to support bands.

Illegally downloaded a movie not too long ago, but that's the only time.
Glad I did because I really didn't like it and I probably would've bought it.

Ah and I once downloaded like 4 episodes of Sons of Anarchy so I could catch up.

Ah and I torrented guitar pro and power tab.

And I didn't properly cite sources for a speech I had to write at school.

Shit, I'm kind of a thief.

I purchase everything. I like hardcopy music on cd or vinyl, Neflix, Half Price Books, cable, and I don't play video games. I don't do it out of any moral compass and I couldn't care less if anyone else does pirate. That's just the way I operate.

I was a horrible music pirate, but I finally broke down and paid for Spotify Premium for convenience and to assuage my conscience.

I have a few HBO shows that I watch on tubeplus and other streaming sites.

Other than that, I'm legal.

I'm entirely legal except for music. the thing about that is, I bought every Jimi Hendrix album on tape. I bought bootlegs and posthumous releases. Then I bought them all again for CD. I did the same thing with all the SRV tapes and CDs and I bought a lot of Black Sabbath tapes, CDs, and vinyl. I'm not going to buy those songs/albums for a third or fourth time. I listen to it on youtube so I am in the clear. (I think)

Not only do I buy all of my music, but if it's good enough I'll buy 2 or 3 of it with the intentions of giving it away. It drives my wife crazy, but if you come to my house for dinner, you're likely leaving with a couple EP's and some stickers.
