Just had one a couple weeks ago. I am not sure how I ever got to sleep with all that crap glued to my head, chest, legs and hand. But they said I did, for 45 minutes. I do have Apnea, and they said the wife's concerns were legit.
I am not sure whether it was worth it yet, but they have another episode planned with a mask. That sounds like about the only way they could make the session more uncomfortable, save poking needles in my skin. Of course, I have two broken ribs, so that may be part of the problem with their test. We shall see, maybe things can be better, but I wasn't complaining to start with. |

As part of my former life as a Respiratory therapist, I use to read and score sleep studies for about 2 years. Having apnea causes your body to stress and increases your cahnces of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and all sorts of "things" that will increase your chances of dying before you would had you not had the apnea. I wife bugged the hell out of me for years about my snoring before I ever went and had the test. I quit breathing 70+ times. After the first couple of days of using the mask I switched to the nasal pillows for the last 8 years. . Those masks are cumbersome and loud. I was sleeping 8 hours and feeling okay and not tired without the CPAP. After the first couple of nights I was sleeping 4 hours a night and feeling great. I now sleep about 6 hours a night and feel great.

Just change out that nasal pillows after you get sick. Change the water if you are using the humidifier. I've never had an issue.

Borderline scam.
My wife went in for one, and in her pre-test office visit they were already going to order a CPAP machine for her. "But we don't know if I need one or not," twas her reasonable reply. The nurses all burst out laughing. "Nobody leaves here without needing one, ma'am." Basically, the tests are in some ways, not all ways, subjective, and that doctor was batting 1000 so to speak. There was some legal trouble at that office not long after. I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin. |

I did the sleep study earlier this year. I knew that I wasn't getting a good night's rest, and the Bosslady used to kick me several times a night as I wasn't breathing. And yes, I got face-mask and CPAP machine. The machine itself is real quiet, but the real issue I have is for the mask not to leak air (it farts when loose), I have to tighten it down hard. It has taken several weeks to find a happy medium.
The weird part is that I don't have any dreams anymore. I used to have some doozy, Technicolor, freak out dreams. Now nada. And yes, everyday cleaning is a PIA. That and having distilled water to fill the water chamber.

Found out I have severe sleep apnea. Tried to sleep half the night without a CPAP. Then SLEPT half the night on a CPAP machine. Woke up feeling awesome. Ready to get my own machine now.
