Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

I don't have any illusion that Geno does every QB thing better than every other prospect this year either. Some he's better, some he's worse.
He has good arm strength, accuracy and touch like RG3, and some mobility in the pocket, but when it comes to comparing his running ability, football IQ and "it" factor, it's not even close.

Well, football IQ and it factor we don't really know yet. That really didn't get blown up until the combine. I'm not sure why you are so down on his football IQ, when everything we've heard and read it's pretty high.

I think this season hurt Geno's stock in that, obviously, his team didn't finish as well.

If you flipped this season, with last season, I think it's a different conversation.

I don't know how you'd rate RG3's football IQ higher. Please explain. Smith does more pre-snap read work and it sounds like his preparation and chalk work rate with anybody.

And "it" factor is subjective. Let's see how interviews come out before we call that one.

I think Smith's touch and feel for the pocket/sliding to extend plays are superior. He also is better at fitting throws into tight windows, IMO, especially on the second level.

Griffin is a freak of nature athlete who must be defended entirely differently. On the college level, this created a lot of openings in the pass game that wouldn't have been there if he was a pure pocket passer like Geno.

They are very different prospects and shouldn't be compared, IMO.

Smith should be compared to guys like Bradford and Ryan, whose playing styles and strengths are similar to his.

I also think the "Geno can't make reads" is a little overblown. In that video, we see that he can, I just don't think in that offense he was asked to very often.

I just dont get the fascination with the media having us taking Joeckel, when we have a top 10 LT. Why let Albert walk and draft his replacement #1, you are not adding talent to your team, you are just replacing it. Makes no sense at all. Hopefully we can get Albert signed soon, so all this drafting Joeckel BS will stop.

The throws in the video are not against NFL STARTING competition. Some of those balls get EASILY picked by Pros. Especially that first long out route. That is a pick 6 in the pros.

Then no college quarterbacks are worthy, because nobody throws against NFL STARTING competition on a weekly basis.

A main thing I saw in the video was his ability to make a multitude of throws. I think that's what you're looking for in an elite QB prospect.

He also didn't need to very often, because Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey create a lot of separation...

I think he has a pretty decent football IQ, but we'll find out at the combine.

I agree that Geno's stock dropped. RG3 has been so clutch the last 2 years he's played football in 2 places.

RG3 lifted Baylor and put them on this back. Took them far. As if that wasn't enough, he took a 3-6 NFL team to a division title over the SB champs no less.

Geno's team has progressively gotten worse as the year went on and he hasn't shown that impressive streak he had against weaker teams in the first month of the season.

You can count on RG3 to lead your team to a win. You can't say that about very many QB's in the NFL today.

Damn this was a great post. I 100% agree with your last sentence. Geno reminds me of Sam Bradford, though I think he does have a higher ceiling.

The first long out route is the one against Iowa State, right?

Pretty sure ISU was in a cover 3 there, with no underneath coverage rolled to that side. The safety was too deep to get there.

Yes, an NFL safety probably gets there in time to at least break that play up. But that's the case with a LOT of throws guys make in college. Even the best guys. That's why even all-prospects like Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck take a while to get going.
