A few random thoughts on the game...

THE GOOD STUFF:
• That was the D I hoped Gunther would bring to town. Attack the backfield and feast on Enemy miscues. I love you, Gun!

• The loss of Holmes diminishes certain aspects of our rushing attack [the perimeter and passing games], but Johnson brings a nice set of skills to the table. Speed, power and a big old dose of ‘tude. I would like to see more swing passes to him. Johnson Vs a DB brings a smile to my face.

• Jared Allen is fun to watch. The hit he put on Brady [which ended up being an incomplete pass] was textbook. Wrap him up, put him on his back and then fall on him. A classic QB crushing.

• Green was on-target yesterday. Maybe having Big Willie in there increases the comfort level.

• Mitchell continues to impress me. It is a good thing that the staff ignored the fans when they screamed “bust” over Kawika. I am also very impressed with Johnson. I can only hope that Bell will make more of an impact in the future. On the whole, the Chiefs’ LB corps has gone from a weakness to a strength.

• Parker did a fine job. Nary a drop that I can recall. And good games from Gonzalez, Kennison and Hall.

• One more time, thank goodness for Colquitt & Tynes. How refreshing to feel confident about the kickers.

• Great game by the much-maligned secondary. Big hits in run support and good coverage on the Patriots’ WRs. 4 INTs is a nice, round number.

• Willie is back.

• Brady’s QB rating was dreadful. Good stuff.

• The Arrowhead crowd was great. Several time outs can be credited to the noise. They brought their A game.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD STUFF:
• Special Teams blocking and coverage teams are pretty bad. We are either out of position or blocking in the back. A little more discipline, please.

• Red Zone Offense. 4 FGs is 12 points, but a couple of TDs would have iced the game much earlier. Personally, I think this will improve as Roaf gets back into game form.

• We need more push from the DTs. We will get Sims back, but I expect him to take a while to get into game form.

• Willie showed some rust. He was flat-out abused on one of Green’s sacks. The big guy is recovering from a hamstring, so he gets a lot of slack.

I simply do not care if the Patriots were riddled with injury. We dominated a team that we should have dominated. We righteously abused the NFL’s “golden boy” QB and won another “must win” game.

I need no disclaimers to enjoy this victory.

xoxo~

I was thinking about this yesterday. Our redzone performance has been lacking this year. Now I think many factors are attributing to this, but I think one of the main reasons is our redzone package.

Per Dick Vermeil (when Rowan was plucked by AZ to be their OC) Rowan (last years tightend coach) was responsible for our redzone package. That package is now created by a different coach. I think it is our RB coach, but I am not sure.
I do remember Dick saying it may effect our redzone game.
Anyway, it may be a factor.

Sheer luck? You're either kidding or just plain dumb.

The kid carried the ball 271 times in 13 games his senior season at Penn State and added 41 catches. He had exactly ZERO fumbles.

He had 201 total touches last year with zero fumbles.

He's had 3 career fumbles in 374 career touches. That's roughly HALF the number of touches per fumble of guys like Jamal Lewis. It's better than LaDanian Tomlinson.

You simply can't compare him to Priest...Holmes' touches per fumble ratio is ungodly - one of the best EVER in the history of the game.

lack of redzone IMO is a product of new offensive personel. And the lack of the OC to adapt quickly to personel in a manner that is effective.

A couple more GOODs:

Benny Sapp is a "playa". I love watching him play. And his coverage is excellent at times.

Greg Wesley is hitting like a truck.

Overall our tackling is light years ahead of where it was before Gunther got here. That might be the biggest thing. Long may it last. It went to crap when Gunther was HC, and it's finally getting good again, IMO.

He's fumbled more than just three times. I know that NFL.com has him down for only three fumbles, three lost fumbles and 1 recovered on his own. How could he have lost 3 and recovered 1 if he only had three total?

I can compare him to Priest if I want to. Imagine what his ball security would be if he held on to it properly.

Melodramatic much?

There's plenty of things about this team that make for good "discussion". Trying to run down one of the brightest spots on this team and make him appear to have a "problem" he doesn't isn't "discussion", it's dumb.

Yes. I agree. During under Robinson, there were alot of whiffs, and rarely a crushing tackle/hit. There were alot of arm tackling during the time as well, as in Gunther's first year, especially early on during the 2004 season. But as the 2004 season went on, the tackling has somewhat improved.

In 2005, I can only think of one game that we had some issues on tackling, and it was the Raiders game at Arrowhead. That's about it. Also the team speed is more improved in the LB's.

Johnson, Mitchell and Bell > Fujita, Beisel, and Barber in terms of speed, athletic ability, and tackling.

Running him down? If you look back to when he was first drafted, I've been a pretty staunch LJ supporter/ even endorsed the draft pick. He has rare speed/power.

If LJ ran with good ball security and was fumbling, I would discount it as bad luck. But as he cuts and spins, that ball is hanging out there for any defensive player to strip it out.

So far he's lost three fumbles this year and the board condemned him after the first two. Had the third one led to a Patriot score and the Chiefs lost the game, there would be just as many ill feelings as there were against Denver and Philly.

To his credit, he's only lost 3. Personally, I see room for improvement in that area. If you're OK with 5-6 lost fumbles in a year (which is his current pace) then you're more tolerant than I am.

Hey, how 'bout that 3-4 a few people and I were crying for, earlier on?

Bennie Sapp and Sammy Parker are turning into somebodies, thank goodness.

The O-Line should get a roll of duct tape and wrap both of LJ's hands around it, then let the Defense have fun in strip drills. That would be fun to see!!!

OK, so let me get this straight. If LJ carried the ball right and was fumbling, you'd call that bad luck. But the fact that Larry Johnson touched the ball 200+ times last year and 300+ times in his senior season at PSU without a SINGLE fumble is "sheer luck"? That's some strong shit you're on there.

Lost fumbles have nothing to do with the individual back. It only matters if he fumbles, it's not his fault if nobody on his team recovers it. And if he only fumbled it 5-6 times a year (which is what he's on pace for), he'd be right on par with the other top backs in the league. And two of those fumbles occured prior to him being a starter, when he was in the assinine "rotation". Any back in the league will tell you that RB is a "groove" position...

It seems to me this isn't about fumbles. You don't like the way he's carrying the ball so you're creating an issue where there isn't one.

It's called an informed opinion. I know that this causes problems for a few select people that just can't stand to have their negativity questioned...
