Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I don't blame Albert at all for wanting to leave now. After his last two seasons, asking him to move to LG was a slap in the face.

Dorsey and Reid can...get ****ed.

No, YOU just stop. Tell me why my analogy is bad.

The ease of a LT playing other positions on the offensive line does NOT factor into what I'm trying to say. What I'm trying to say is JUST BECAUSE Albert played a bit of guard in college doesn't mean he should just let a team move him to guard in the pros, especially when he's widely recognized as a pretty good LT and on the verge of his first big money contract that will set him up financially for the rest of his LIFE.

It has to do with position switching. Identity. Remember when people said we shouldn't draft Tannehill last year because he was a WR, not a QB? That's the shit I'm talking about.

Direckshun. Telling ME to shut up. I am appalled.

There's lots of people that survived the Pioli to Dorsey change. Hell, there's still some that have been there since Marty. I've been relying on the same guy for info for about 4 years now.

There was a real great source of info I had when I wrote for NFLScoop but he didn't last past the Cunningham regime.

I've been fortunate at any point these people could just tell me to piss off.

I imagine at some point the Chiefs told Albert they wanted to see if he could hold up at tackle for a full year playing under the tag before they signed him long term, just to make sure that his back wasn't really FUBAR. I also imagine that didn't sit well with Albert thinking he deserved the left tackle contract NOW, and also becasue big guaranteed money > franchise tag (even at almost 10 mil).

I honestly think the Chiefs just looked at the reality of the 1.1 pick.

Like most everybody else, they weren't sold on Geno. They'd love Jordan or Ansah but both are unproven, a terrible ****ing idea for the 1.1. And even a draft day trade-master like Reid cannot trade out of the #1 overall in a year like this.

Joeckel becomes the most logical selection. Which they think they can get a best case scenario out of Albert, who can play two other positions on the OL. They'll even offer him a fat contract to stay and be a LG/RT. If Albert doesn't like it, they can tag him and get something for him.

Albert, unsurprisingly, didn't like it.

Deep throating?

I hate Alex Smith. I've hated Alex Smith for about 4 years now. However, I have no other option but to see how he turns out. I can have some optimism based on how he played last year and that's deep throating?

I also like Andy Reid. I've liked Andy Reid for a long time and think he's a very good coach. I, like you, have been subjected to the garbage coaches this franchise has had and I think he's a massive upgrade.

I also think Branden Albert is a good LT. I don't think he's top 10, but I think he's in the discussion. I don't think he's worth what he wants and I think getting a 2nd round pick for him when the alternative was nothing (and no giving him a blank check and paying him what he wants never was an option).

I will hate the Luke Joeckel move if we draft him, but I will also give him a chance to play actual games over the first year before I call him Tony Mandarich.

Do you really think the Panthers were "sold" on Cam Newton?

Dude had a ton of question marks.

I do think they were sold on him, yes. Guy was a Top 3 prospect that year.

Geno is, by most all accounts, is Top 20.

Albert might not even be effective at LG anymore since he lost all that weight.

Moving to LG might completely destroy his future earning potential.

**** the Chiefs for trying to screw Branden Albert.

If Albert is gone, Joeckel or Fisher is a safe pick and a need pick. But is it wrong of me to want that Star Lotoleleleilie guy?

Have you seen the contracts that Nicks, Levitre, Mankins got?

The guards over the last 2 years have gotten better deals than the tackles.
