DayZ

With the DayZ standalone playable alpha release looming, I thought I would check out the mod version of the game. http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/

If you dont know, DayZ is an open world survival zombie game modification based off of the military sim ArmA 2 games. www.dayzmod.com

Basically its hardcore mode survival against zombies and even more dangerous, other players.

I have been watching vids for months and took advantage of a steam sale today to pick up ArmA 2.

Anyone playing DayZ right now? Servers? Thoughts? I have a teamspeak we can use!

What did that cost you?

GeForce GTX 750 ti OC - 169$
Gigabyte 78 MicroATX Motherboard - 50$
8 GB 1600 G.Skills Ripsaws Ram - 75$
Corsair 500w CX PS - 30$($20 MIR)
Windows 8.1 - 79$ I got a 20$ off Builders sale
1 TB HDD - 64$
Asus Optical Disc - 25$

I finished putting this together in about 3 hours(first time build ever). Cable management was a bit of a pain, lots of zip ties everywhere to keep it somewhat tidy, but that is expected in a small form factor case. I am on it now, and it screams. Even with a regular harddrive, I booted up to windows in around 10 seconds, maybe less. Installing Titanfall right now, I will get back to you on how the game runs. Otherwise, I am massively pleased with the build.

Also to add, if you are going for a small form factor build, I highly recommend going with a modular power supply (can add/remove which cables you need for the power supply). I am fine I suppose with mine since it's way more power than I need, I got it dirt cheap, and it's a very reputable brand, but I am only using about half the cables I need for it. If you are doing a build, I would space it out over a month, as there are constantly changing sales, especially at new egg. I saved quite a bit. On the negative side, it seems graphics card prices are sky rocketing, and there is no end in sight. I suggest trying to pick up a card sooner rather than later if you want to get started. I found an excellent website for those who want to start building.http://www.hardware-revolution.com/b...november-2013/

Ok, so sub $700. I am looking to build a rig for $600. I am going to try and do this over the course of several months this summer. I will definitely need all of your guys' input. The entire purpose of the rig is to play DayZ. More or less.

You can build that same PC for close to 600, 80 bucks for windows is 65 too much, and if you buy a bundle pack of say ram/mobo/cpu that can save you 25-30 bucks as well

It's amazing how you can build a powerful computer for so cheap nowadays.

Won't lie, I will just steal a cracked version of Windows 7 ultimate (64) if I have to. I did that for a previous shitty PC and it worked great. Thanks for the heads up on bundles. I will definitely hit this thread up several times when I start purchasing hardware.

edit: I really want to play with you guys, and I really want to play as heroes. I will be the bambi that lures asshole bandit scum in to rob/kill me, and that is when you snipe from the tree line and kill those bastards. Then we loot, and repeat. Any excess items we have, we gift to bambis as the happen across our trap.

Well, I have titanfall running at all high settings with 2x AA running at 60 FPS. It's awesome, so I think I will pick up Dayz
