Vegging it for 40 days?

I'm not Catholic, so I never observe Lent. However, I'm considering giving up meat for 40 days. I haven't had any today, so I figure I have until lunch to consider it. I know I'm talking to a group of grillers in the BBQ capital, but maybe there are some vegetarians in the group? Any advice?

Maybe fat isn't the best description - and as above it matters how and what you eat it with. Also, cutting excess weight can be done by consuming less calories than what you burn - no matter what you are eating.
exactly...quality meat is actually healthy for you (really healthy)...shitty meat wrapped in shitty oils and shitty breading with shitty fries etc is a disaster

but I really hate talking about food because everyone thinks the way they eat is right (me included)...and there is so much bunk received wisdom about fat and meat (imo, obviously)...i'm going to zip it and go slander someone for not being in suffering love with geno

Great idea. Another behavior of those who successfully drop weight - and keep it off - is weighing yourself everyday. (source: http://www.amazon.com/Influencer-Cha...rds=influencer)

FYI Luv, diet stuff and artificial sweeteners have the same effects as the sugar, just without the calories. It will still spike your insulin and it will still make you crave.

Drink more water - it keeps you full and its good for you. Many times thirst is mistaken for hunger.

Yup...best way to get a 100 post thread on CP is to ask or talk about a diet. Guaranteed every time.

LOL

I'm wading through all of that.

Just doing some reading, and remembering what my trainer told me last year. Carbs before a workout and protein after. So, on derby practice nights, I plan to eat some yogurt before practice, and try to find a protein to eat after. If all else fails I could have a protein smoothie after practice, and try to eat some eggs in the mornings.

The thing I have with eating too much after practice is that we don't get done until 9 or 10 at night, and I hate eating that late. A lot of times, a group of girls will go somewhere for half price appetizers somewhere after practice, so I end up going and hanging out. I may have to start just getting water and carrying a protein bar in my purse.

Depends on the sweetener. I believe Truvia has 0 insulin response. Not 100% sure on that, but I know its minimal.

Yogurt can be a good source of protein. The Chobani yogurt I eat has 14g of protein per serving.

thats why I said I'd eat the steak. Of course, if you skipped a meal, and just at that steak, you'd be deficient in many of the essential vitamins your body needs. If, on the other hand, you had a 24 oz meatless chili with beans, red peppers, onions, tomatos, green peppers, and mushrooms, you'd also be full enough to skip a meal, consume less than 1400 calories, and provide your body with all of the essential fats, minerals, and vitamins it needs.

While I do need to lose more weight, that isn't necessarily the reason for wanting to change. I know we've gotten into that side of making changes. I've just heard so many people that have tried it comment (in passing, not that they're pushing that lifestyle change on anyone else) on how great they feel. I've heard it from enough people, that I want to try. I really think that just eating seafood will be good. I just have to watch how it's prepared. Sure, shrimp is good, but not really if it's battered and deep fried, cooked and served with gobs of butter, etc.
