Report: Jake Long wants “at least” $10 million annually

Jake Long was once considered in many circles to be the best left tackle in football. His stock has fallen off dramatically due to myriad injuries and declining performance, and he’s slated to hit a deep free-agent market for offensive tackles this March.

Long’s monetary expectations remain high. Citing people who have spoken to the Dolphins’ front office, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports Long is believed to be seeking “at least $10 million a year” and the Fins are “pessimistic” about their chances of retaining him.

Jackson adds that Long “scoffed” at the Dolphins’ in-season extension offer.

Long turns 28 in May and there are indications his body is breaking down, so we can’t fault him for pursuing every last dollar on his first ever opportunity to test free agency. With the way things have gone for him recently, this could conceivably be Long’s final substantial pay day the NFL.

He’s just probably not going to get it from the Dolphins.

I forgot to mention that Albert has peaked as a player, and Joeckel has a ceiling that is a lot higher. It's a gamble, but could be a significant upgrade.

How would it be a waste of a 2-14 season?

If you're temporarily wealthy, you don't buy the highest priced thing on the shelf just because it's got the highest price.

You do if it has higher potential, fits a need, and is the most important thing to have.

Why waste so much draft value, when we've never in the franchise's history had more to spend?

We could pick someone at #1 who is a worthy #1 overall talent. Or we could pick someone the caliber of which we could have gotten any other year drafting in the teens.

It's a difference of philosophy. Some people want us to stay in our lanes and maximize value in the draft. Some of us want to reach for positions of need.

Sometimes, either one is appropriate. Right now, because we need to change over 2/3 of the roster, I'm in favor of maximizing value.

They'd rather get "value" than win a ****ing Super Bowl, lol.

Why is it a waste to draft the best quarterback in the draft when you can and it fills a position of need?

Tackles are needed but severely overrated. Above average QB play drastically improves your OL. Barry Richardson, arguably the worst pass blocking tackle in the NFL the last 3 years didn't give up a sack with an average QB in Orton and you really want to waste the opportunity to get the best QB available in favor of a ****ing LT?

You're making my point for me.

Trent Green had his Willie Roaf. And the Chiefs had the league's best offense.
