Singaport: Trump Meets Kim (event thread)

The historic meeting between the two leaders will take place at 9 a.m. local time in Singapore. To account for the time difference, Americans following the summit should watch for meeting proceedings to begin on June 11 at 9 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. PT.

Yeah, he said congress was all talk no action.

Now we come to find, congress is all powerful and he can do nothing against their will. Weird!

Considering this is the first time in 6+ decades the leaders of the 2 countries have even spoken face-face, I'd say something major has already been accomplished.

In any case, I'd be happy with a president from either party who can hash out a deal that reduces North Korea's isolation and reduces military tension without selling out South Korea. I'm hesitant to believe that Trump is a president capable of doing that, because when you combine...

1. his notorious tendency to listen to the last person who had his ear on a subject
2. his total lack of care for alliances that have been important to the U.S. for decades
3. his complete narcissism and desire to do things that will get him praised rather than do things that are best for the country

...it's a little too easy to imagine Trump walking away from this meeting saying "Kim is a great guy, just the best, this Juche thing they have over here, you wouldn't believe it, it's incredible, I think you'll see a lot more people hearing about it back home, we're going golfing at Doral next week, oh and we're withdrawing all our troops from the South because I hate these Samsung phones".

But I'm open to being surprised.

The second item in particular ("his total lack of care for alliances that have been important to the U.S. for decades") is demonstrable from nearly every meeting of global leaders Trump has had, as well as speeches wondering why we need NATO and shit, whether South Korea contributes to our alliance enough, now he's starting trade wars with Canada because they're "good and easy to win" and dumb shit like that. You're in total denial if you can't even concede that one.

Canada puts a 270% tarrif on US dairy products. Trump campaigned HEAVILY in Wisconsin. So he is going for an "easy win", but it's just to win Wisconsin in 2020, not to "push around" Canada. Who were actually the ones doing the pushing.

Trump says he’ll size up Kim Jong Un ‘within the first minute’ of Singapore summit:

“Within the first minute, I’ll know. My touch, my feel — that’s what I do,” Trump said during a news conference in Quebec as he prepared to depart the Group of Seven summit en route to Singapore, where he is scheduled to meet Kim on Tuesday.

Yea, that's the guy I want involved in this. JFC

NK has always wanted to meet. It's been us who wasn't willing.

What's the accomplishment?

He has a problem with the globalists and he is putting pressure on them. The truth is he is beginning to change the whole world, not just the US. From Brexit to Italy and Spain. The populist revolution is beginning. Trump is the catalyst.

That's a nice combination of #2 and #3 (do what's best for Trump, not what's best for the country), actually. Blow up our relationship with a country we've been friendly with for longer than our lifetimes, call their leader childish names on Twitter because he made you feel small, all over a relationship that by Trump's idiotic measure (U.S. trade surplus = good, U.S. trade deficit = BAD and we're LOSING):

...is actually good for the US?

Sure, makes total sense, great leadership
