Transgender track stars win state championship, ignites debate over rules

Didn't something similar happen before???

Quote:

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- - Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood swept the competition at the state championships for girls track and field.

Miller, a sophomore at Bulkeley High School took first place in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Andraya, a sophomore at Cromwell High School took second in the 100 meter dash. The wins are not sitting well with everyone. Miller and Yearwood are both transgender, and some say it's an unfair advantage and uneven playing field.

In a 2017 interview with News 8, Andraya Yearwood said even as a child, she identified as a girl.

"I had these pink and purple furry boots that I wore to school," Yearwood said. "I guess since I was always different I learned to deal with it and grow tougher skin over it."

Some parents and student-athletes have started petitions to change the policy that athletes in Connecticut high schools can play for gender specific sport they identify with. One petition is circulating in Plainville, the other in Glastonbury.

The CIAC, Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, says their policy is directly in alignment with state law and for their policy to change, state law would also have to change. They say they empathize and are listening to all athletes, but this is a very complex legal issue with multiple layers. Those we talked to agree, it's a very complicated topic.

"You have some people who believe men are stronger and faster so I can understand if an athlete is born male but identifying as a female and compete as one, some females will feel a particular way about it," Clinton Baker said.

"If she identifies as a girl then I think she should be able to run in the race because she can use the ladies room, she can wear a skirt, why not run and stay active," Natasha Morgan said.

"The cream rises to the top," Baker added. "Athletes now will tell you if you put UConn women on the court with men, UConn men might lose. It's all in the spirit of competition, hard work and heart."

Yearwood says she's extremely grateful for the opportunity to be exactly who she says she has always been.

"I'm extremely grateful because I've heard of stories where some people don't get the same opportunities as me and have had to go through really hard times with this," Yearwood said.

Yeah.

It's just that sex and gender 'identity' correspond in 99.9% of cases and people with gender identity issues tend to suffer from all kinds of other mental problems and most commonly are depressed.

Also, if you have not caught up on your progressive sociology, the claim is now that biological sex is ALSO a social construct just like gender identity.

It's all very stupid. A bunch of gibberish to justify worthless college courses.

If you scratch your balls after waking up you should be disqualified from competing with girls.

Absolute Bullshit.

This is an example of a hypothetical/slippery-slope argument that so many people...yet has proven true. Too many progressives and liberals think from a perverted and twisted perspective of "tolerance" and "perspective" that blinds them to simple common sense. Period.

Its not a slippery slope fallacy if it happens and there is a history of the same people pulling the same shit.

That's my point; this is NOT a slippery slope that so many buy into...and take stupid positions as a result...on this we are agreed.

In politics, the so-called "slippery slope fallacy" is almost always the "slippery slope hope", and is often followed by the "slippery slope reality".

Yeah, but that slippery slope isn't always a fallacy if you just follow the reasoning. Think about the shit gender studies is peddling now...

Proposition 1. Gender is a social construct, and operates independently from biological sex

Proposition 2. Biological sex is a social construct.

Proposition 3. Men and women are basically exactly the same anyway.

I mean we're talking more 'cause and effect' than 'slippery slope'.

I've noticed if you recognize a pattern and make a prediction, people just call it the 'slippery slope' fallacy and don't understand what that means. Making a prediction based off of a series of events is NOT a slippery slope fallacy.

Not a slippery slope : "If you tell men and women that every difference is socially constructed you are going to have biological men competing against women in athletic competition."

Slippery Slope : "If you tell men and women that every difference is socially constructed, men will start competing with women in sports, we'll have quotas for women in the NFL, and next thing you know women will be competing in the kentucky derby!"

A slippery slope requires a series of future events based on a singular event that stack until the final event is just retarded and insanely unlikely.

This was not unlikely. It was predictable.

I make predictions of this nature all the time, and I'm usually right. I just don't stack 6 predictions on top of each other while they become less and less likely to actually happen.

I don't know what was confirmed, but I don't even know what a 'gender test' consists of.
As stated above, the correct term was probably "sex tested"?

I would guess it's a chromosome test? Men have XY, and women have XX, so if the subject has XY, the subject is male. (Going way out on a limb here.)

It's possible. I honestly don't know how the various intersex conditions even work. There's a few of them and they have pretty different results.

I think that, at the end of the day, it simply isn't possible to fix all problems, create a perfect world.

These individuals were born with a certain abnormality that creates problems in their lives. But the fix for their problems cannot extend to give them an unfair advantage over female athletes.

So they can compete with the men, or they can choose not to compete.

If they were born with some horrendous physical impairment - say something that confined them to a wheelchair, they would not be competing either, except as against other people in wheelchairs.

It's unfortunate, maybe even "unfair" from their personal perspective, but that's just the way it is. Life is imperfect.

Yeah well. Life isn't fair.

Ask all those kids who have hoop dreams and grow up to be 5-7 and unathletic, or the low IQ poor kid who wants to be an astronaut.

Fair or unfair, lines get drawn in society so that it's most fair as possible for most people. This may seem fair to these two 'girls' that they got to compete as girls, but it's entirely unfair for the hundreds of girls competing against them.

A sad but true state of affairs is that no matter how much social tinkering you do life will never be nor has it ever been fair. All you can do is make it as fair as possible for as many people as possible.

As a very strong supportet of transgender rights, this is bullshit. As a male to female transexual you are just gonna have to forego sports stardom.
