people i know that do this have other really annoying peeves like constant sniffling, eating their mouth open or just making a lot of unnecessary noise

As long as their not blowing all their shit in my direction or near my plate, I wouldn't care. However, I rarely sit down at a table to eat meals with my family...the majority of my family just grabs heaps of food and takes their plates wherever they want throughout the household...I usually head straight to the couch to watch TV while I eat. This is the case for holidays...on both sides of the family. On one side, I go to the couch with my dad and my uncles and talk wrestling the entire day. On the other side, it's football with my cousins. Therefore, it is difficult for me to hypothesize this because I'm not much of an "at the table" eater.
