Matt Ryan "falls off a cliff" and has an 89 QB rating.

Alex is having a career year and his is 88.

Priceless.

Did I say Alex was anything special?

He's a good solid QB. But he's not elite or special. Doesn't mean he can't win a playoff game though.

So, in other words, he's gonna lead the league in interceptions in a few years? Neat!

Alex Smith has won playoff games, with what was the #1 defense in the NFL at the time.

The Chiefs do not have a #1 defense.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but I've come to the conclusion that man coverage is Smith's biggest achilles heel. He doesn't trust the timing of routes enough to let the ball go on time on man coverage. He waits for the guy to actually get open, which in the NFL is often too late.

When he knows guys are going to find openings in zones, he does OK. It's man defense where he seems to hold the ball too long.

I'd be interested to go back and look at this over the course of the season.

I don't. He used to hit Crabs and VD one on one with the 9ers.

He threw several times to Bowe today one on one only to have the ball go inc for whatever reasons. Do you think those passes were inc because of timing?

He did have a pretty crappy day though.

Most of those throws were catchable, but late arriving.

I was watching on a horrible internet site with lag.. I tried to watch, but half the time I'd see Alex take the snap and then the ball would be in and out of the hands of whoever...so I know results without being able to see why on a lot of the plays.

Yeah, several of those passes to Bowe were late enough that Bowe had lost his defender on the break but the defender had time to get back to the ball. We see it a ton on is curl routes. People blame lazy routes, but if the ball is there when Bowe breaks, the defender wouldn't be all over him.

And that's not to say he can't complete passes one on one. I just think that man coverage exposes Smith's biggest weaknesses. His accuracy on the edges. His hesitation to put a ball on a spot instead of on an open receiver.
