Neither the Democrats or Republicans will destroy the economy. Usually its just cyclical. YOU control the economy. The Chairman of the Federal Reserve has more power on the economy than the president.

When Clinton left office, we were running a SURPLUS of $128 billion. Let me repeat: We were running a SURPLUS, and that surplus was GROWING each year.

Then George W. Bush took over. He immediately cut taxes, because that's the only thing the GOP knows how to do. Result: The Great Recession and trillion dollar deficits. (Bush's idiotic decision to invade Iraq was also a factor. Bush was a good man with good intentions, but his decisions were horrifically bad.)

Then Obama took over. He once again raised taxes on those with the greatest ability to pay. Result: A recovery from Bush's recession, 76 consecutive months of job growth, a booming stock market, a growing economy, and deficits that fell from $1.3 trillion to $585 billion. Still too high, but a 50% reduction.

Then Trump took over and passed the GOP Tax Scam. He promised the tax cuts would pay for themselves, the GOP sheep believed it. Result: trillion dollar deficits yet again. The top 1% got huge tax breaks and the stock market continued the steady increase that started 7 years before Trump took office. Meanwhile, job growth slowed significantly under Trump, and the GOP announced that they were going to cut over $800 billion dollars from Medicare and Social Security. After all, those tax cuts aren't paying for themselves, so you might as well stick it to the people who have the least ability to pay. That's the GOP strategy.

Those who absolutely REFUSE to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. We've seen it over and over.

History has proven that the LAST thing we need to worry about is the Democrats destroying the economy. GOP tax policy is the definition of insanity. They will never learn. They've proven this.
Bet we can guarantee Avenatti won’t be apart of the economy soon.

I don't think people who grew up thinking that healthcare and education are fundamental human rights will suddenly waver on that as they get older. These are not positions that previous young generations had exposure to, let alone believed, so I'm pretty confident that this is where the party is headed long term. And that's a good thing.

I agree. And some fraction of those Bernie kids will even become conservatives.

But all of the top contenders for the democrat nomination have moved to the left of Obama.

I mean, healthcare and education should be national priorities.

The othering you see from Bernie (and his bros) as well as Warren is the biggest turn off for me. That's the stuff we see from trump, just directed at a different target.

Bernie doesn't do those things. He points out substantive distinctions between him and the other candidates on policy. Comparing him to Trump in that regard is pretty disingenuous and frankly, quite stupid.

He casts plenty of people as the others. I'm not saying he does it to candidates (although his fans certainly do, and he doesn't speak up), but he does do it to other Americans. Anyone wealthy, or anyone working in the health insurance or pharmaceutical industries to name 3.

As it turns out it's possible to have a substantive discussion on healthcare policy or progressive taxation without turning anyone into The Enemy

And I'm saying when he does that othering (Warren does it more imo) he's doing something trump does. It's gross. It's also true he's immeasurably better than trump on basically every level and I have no problem enthusiastically supporting him if he's the nominee.

I'm sorry, but this is really stupid. For starters, he has condemned online attacks by his supporters on several occasions. I happen to think it's a lazy smear by the media and that he has nothing to apologize for, but you can't tell me he hasn't spoken out against it because that's a demonstrable falsehood.

Secondly, you are conflating his critique of capitalism with attacking the people in those industries. He rarely does the latter and you almost never see him use actual names. He doesn't demonize people for being rich, he talks about taking on the system that allowed them to overwhelmingly benefit at the expense of the rest of society. He talks about wealth redistribution policies. He talks about how the pharmaceutical industry has rigged the game in their favor and is gouging Americans on the cost of prescription medicine. Sanders has an ideological critique, Trump is launching baseless personal attacks on real or perceived slights from his enemies. Confusing them in any way is damaging to the left so let's nip that in the bud right away.
