Thoughts on NFL Player Contracts and the Cap
Not that the players have a lot to complain about, seeing as they make sooooo much freaking money, but I think the way NFL contracts are structured is ridiculous. People get all worked up and excited about a 10 billion dollar deal for a player, but the likelihood is that he'll never see that money because the deal will be so heavily backloaded. The player will, most likely, be forced to restructure the deal before he actually sees the most significant part of the money. I guess that's why players favor signing bonuses so much. They've come to realize that the actual contract is basically meaningless from year to year.
