Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

Yeah those guys raised their prices a buck a box from last week. At least they are not going in with the full press screw job like cheaper than dirt, screw those guys.

I'm still strying to run down a decent deal on some .22 rounds, but the minute they are listed they are gone, or the web page they are listed on goes boom bang crash.

When I do find some at a great deal, I'm going to stock up.

They seem to be coming back down a bit, just wait for a deal here and keep checking.

I only have experience with PMAGs and the 30rd Sig Sauer mag that came with my rifle. Are there any other brands/types that are good?

EDIT: I may have answered my own question. I checked the Sig Sauer site and their 30rd mags are $28. And if you order two, they include a mag connector. They work with the M400, 516 and 556 platforms. That, combined with the fact that my 556 takes PMAGs fine, means that these mags could very well be an option for ARs. I'm going to order 5...that will bring me up to 6 Sig Sauer mags with 3 connectors.

I need a reality check on 9mm ammo.

I've only been "aware" of 9mm prices since the bloat started. What was an acceptable price per round before all of this happened? Not that we'll ever get there, but I don't even know what a "deal" is anymore.

Larry Potterfield - "Thanks a Million"

I've done a lot of business with MidwayUSA over the years and plan to do a lot more. I've only met Larry a couple times but he has alway seemed like the real deal, and this confirms it for me.

Quote:
by MidwayUSA 3/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Columbia, MO -

One million is an attention-getting number, no matter what the circumstances. At MidwayUSA, Brenda and I - along with the MidwayUSA Employees - have celebrated a good many 'one million' milestones during the last 35+ years.

In 1983, our seventh year in business, we reached the milestone of one million dollars in business during a single calendar year. 2008 was the first year we filled one million orders for our Customers. In 2012 your NRA "Round-Up" contributions, through MidwayUSA, exceeded one million dollars during that single year. Please note that NRA "Round-Up" contributions come from you, our Customers, and each week since 1992 we have sent your contributions directly to the NRA/ILA National Endowment for the Protection of the 2nd Amendment. Our Customers should get all the credit for that, we just collect and remit your money. Now, in March of 2013 came another milestone to celebrate - one million active Customers - Customers who have ordered from MidwayUSA during the last twelve months. For a country kid from Missouri, that's an amazing milestone.

I believe our vision to be the best-run, most-respected business in America, for the benefit of our Customers, our family values and our relentless pursuit of Customer Satisfaction are what brought us to this milestone of one million active Customers. Brenda and I, along with all the Employees at MidwayUSA, thank you very much for your support.
As you might imagine, we gave quite a bit of thought as to how we could celebrate. Should we choose our one millionth active Customer and give he or she a special gift? Well, we could have done that, but all of our Customers are equally important, not just the one who put us over the top. Then someone came up with the idea that we should donate $1 to the NRA for each of our active Customers. Well, let's see, what is $1 times one million?

And so it was! On Monday morning about 10am, when we went over one million active Customers, MidwayUSA authorized our bank to send a wire transfer of one million dollars to the NRA/ILA National Endowment for the Protection of the 2nd Amendment; because we can and because we should.

I wish I didn't have to pay sales tax buying from them. I'd use them a lot more.

Post it up when you find 22lr. I'm probably in for 10k in one fell shot. I've not found a damn thing here recently.

The .25cpr posted by Dunit is about right.

I still have 250+ rounds so I'm in no rush so I ordered 1k from these people:

http://www.precisiondelta.com/detail.php?sku=D124F9R

It is quality reloaded ammo, in brass, for 24cpr. I you can wait 8-10 weeks for delivery, you aren't gonna beat the price. Should be another 4-6 weeks until mine ships.

So I have $250 - $300 budgeted and I'm trying to decide between a few things:

1. A .22LR of some sort - preferably a Ruger 10/22
2. Some tactical upgrades for my Rem 870 (18.5" barrel, fold-over stock, etc). Right now it's plain vanilla with a 26" barrel.
3. Ammo...probably the 1K 9mm posted by pr just above.

...or maybe I should focus on buying things that could be outlawed soon?

1. A .22lr is always a good weapon to have around. Are you dead sold on the Ruger 10/22? Perhaps just a personal preference but I would much rather have a much cheaper bolt action and spend less leaving me money for ammo or other toys.

Conversely, if you are thinking of a SHTF situation, you may want to take a look at the Henry AR-7. http://henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm

2. I would leave the shotty just as in. If anything, add a Buttstock shellholder w/pouch. Something like: http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-...s=shell+holder

3. Can't say anything against it because it was my idea.

I've strongly considered the ar-7, but have read some iffy reports about it being picky with ammo. It also doesn't have near the aftermarket possibilities that the 10/22 does. I could get the breakdown 10/22, but that's almost $100 more than the "plain" birchwood stock model.
