Travis Kelce after OT loss: Chiefs 'have to man up'

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...have-to-man-up

The Kansas City Chiefs lost their fourth game in five tries after Sunday's overtime defeat at the hands of the struggling New York Giants.

Following the loss, tight end Travis Kelce called out his teammates to step up to the challenge down the stretch.

"We have to man up," Kelce said, per the Kansas City Star. "Nobody is pointing fingers but guys have to get called out and be more accountable, and that starts with myself."

The Chiefs failed to score a touchdown on 12 drives against a defense that had allowed 82 points in their previous two games and came in allowing 473.5 yards per game in their past three tilts.

"You have to go out there and make plays, but we didn't," Kelce said.

The tight end was the Chiefs best offensive weapon, with Kareem Hunt mostly stuck in the mud. Kelce went for 109 yards on eight catches. However, he also had a brutal interception on a bizarre play call with the score tied late in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs were supposed to walk into MetLife Stadium and wallop a punchless Giants team that appeared on the verge of mutinying on coach Ben McAdoo. Instead, New York showed more fight than the team battling for a playoff spot.

"I saw this, not this outcome, but this effort and this attention to detail coming a mile away," Kelce said of the Giants' energy. "Just because of all the stuff you heard in the media with [McAdoo] challenging them. Our job is to go out there and match it. We fell short."

Sitting at 6-4 in a limp AFC, the Chiefs are still in prime position for a playoff spot. K.C. owns a two-game lead in the AFC West with matchups against the Bills, Jets, and Raiders on tap. A winning streak would wipe away the bad taste from Sunday's loss in New Jersey.

Maybe Peter's is realizing he is about to get paid. No point in getting hurt during a tackle until the check has been signed. I can't blame him if this were the case.

Another option is why bust his ass when the rest of the defense is not doing shit?

I have said for awhile, our lines were soft af. Now it seems the whole team is. They are not prepared. Andy calls shit plays.

Primed for one and done.

And it's not specifically about wanting/needing a dirty player. The toughest defenses in the league are always punishing tacklers that play with a nasty streak. Aggressive play that draws hate and claims of "dirty" from opposing fans. For all of Chiefs fans' crying over Denver being dirty, is sure as **** didn't keep that team from winning a super bowl.

Great defenses have a certain attitude. KC has none of it.

This is all bullshit and another effort to lay blame where it doesn’t belong.

We had a really good defense for years and were never known as punishing or nasty. JJ Watt, Khalil Mack, Eric Berry, etc are all elite defenders who have never even toed the “dirty player” line.

This defense has carried this shit offense for ****ing years now. Now that the defense has started to slip we’re just asking the offense with a 13 year veteran QB, speedy phenom WR, electric TE, and rookie RB sensation in its 5th year to do some ****ing work. They did that and more for like four weeks and the last few they’ve been pretty much ass. It’s not good enough and there’s no excuse anymore.

Andy's commitment to running the football seems to be running on first down every single first down. And it seems like it's the same play 95% of the time. So great, now it's 2nd and 10.

wtf, wrong read, is he supposed to know Fulton was gonna fall down and not block s**t?

Alex didn't have a good game for sure (plenty to complain about) but that int is not on him any way whatsoever and to place on him is just stupid.

And speaking of Fulton, why have I not read one thing about that garbage. Why is he in there? He is the absolute worst and a complete waste of space/turnstyle.

Riggles picks podcast this week is a specific one to the Chiefs fan. Plus BBQ, Royals and all KC topics

Sarah Tiana is in parts unknown this week so Rob welcomes Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet and NFL star Travis Kelce to fill in and they get out of the gate quickly talking about their mutual love, the Kansas City Chiefs. The guys also talk with Travis about his early years growing up in Ohio before following his brother and fellow NFL player Jason to Cincinnati for their college year before going over some of the current breaking news from around the NFL. The guys then get into a Kansas City Chiefs themed version of Loaded Trivia with Eric & Travis testing themselves on their knowledge of their favorite team. As the show wraps up they take some listener questions.
