Marcus Peters also had verbal altercation with assistant coach Sunday

http://amp.kansascity.com/sports/nfl...mpression=true

Chiefs cornerback Marcus Petersí frustration following the Chiefsí 38-31 loss to the New York Jets didnít end immediately after the game, it appears.

According to a report by NFL Networkís Mike Garafalo, Peters also had a verbal altercation with an assistant coach on the bus during the teamís ride to airport following the game. The assistant coach was not named.

The Star reported Thursday that Petersí suspension was related to his decision to leave the field prematurely following the flag toss. The club viewed that as a team issue, as opposed to the penalty flag toss, which it deemed a league issue that Peters was ultimately fined $24,409 for on Friday.

The NFL Network report cited Petersí decision to leave the field as a reason for the one-game suspension coach Andy Reid levied on him earlier this week, with the verbal altercation also being a contributing factor.

The Chiefs still had a little over two minutes left to tie the game, and Peters returned to the sideline ĖĖ albeit with no socks ĖĖ as the offense made its last-gasp attempt. But the drive stalled out, and the Chiefs lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Petersí suspension means the Oakland native will miss the Chiefsí showdown Sunday against his hometown Raiders. He was not allowed to practice this week and will forfeit a game check.

It depends on what teams would give for him. We are also about to pay a shit load of money to Chris Jones and Tyreek Hill. Reggie Ragland will need to be paid. Kendall Fuller will likely need to be paid. Kareem Hunt will likely get a new deal in 2 years to avoid a franchise tag.

We are seriously about to break the damn bank in 2 years

Canít pay everyone but youíre also gonna have a lot of money greed up at that point so you do what youíve gotta do.

They are gonna have to draft better to replace some of that also.

Those are some good players but none of them have produced to the level of Peters on the field yet. If he doesnít wanna be here fine , but itís gonna take a lot to replace his production from a value standpoint in terms of what they get back. I donít think theyíll get a first rounder plus unless he tells whatever team that offers it heíll sign a long term deal and even the , Iím guessing a 2nd is what theyíd get

Yeah but Iím good with that. Iím not for keeping Peters 1 more year at franchise tag money if it means losing another talented player that wants to be here that we could extend.

If the Chiefs know they donít want to extend Peters, then use him for another year or two and get the 2nd rd pick instead of paying franchise tag money. Thatís more logical than paying him an ass load of money for 1 year and hen getting a 3rd rd comp pick.

Not really. His 8 turnovers per year are worth what youíd pay the rage money.

3 more years, 24 turnovers and a 3rd round pick would be worth what youíd pay him

The only difference is that with a #1 you have 5 years on a rookie deal. Peters is going to be darn difficult to keep after next year. So depending on who is available (but need LB, edge rusher or CB) and what your scouts say a decent 1 could be worth moving him.

Setting aside the segment of the fanbase that has an irrational hatred for Peters (mostly based on the National Anthem issue), the mindset that the Chiefs won't be able to keep Peters when he becomes a free agent and should proactively trade him is a small market/loser mentality.

You don't trade a 25 year old Pro Bowl CB shutdown corner. That is arguably the most valuable asset in today's NFL behind a young franchise QB.

Yeah I mean what’s a harder position to find? Qb pass rusher and corner are your big 3 spots.

Admittedly I have no idea what’s going on in the locker room or behind closed doors but on the surface, I’d pay Peters before I’d pay a rb or a wr big money simply because he’s a turnover producing corner.

Or an ILB

He's had how many outbursts in his time here? I'll start worrying when he's freaking out every game and playing like complete shit. Until then....the positives are outweighing the negatives.

Now....when it comes time to give him a new deal....you can take all of that into consideration. But you don't ****ing trade him when you have him cheap for another 2 years. Let him play this year and re-evaluate at the end of this season.

5. Marcus Peters, Kansas City Chiefs
20 OF 24

Coverage: 21/25
Reaction: 24/25
Recovery: 21/25
Tackling: 9/15
Position Value: 10/10
Overall Grade: 85/100

The most dangerous cornerback in the NFL resides in Kansas City. Third-year corner Marcus Peters continued on his Hall of Fame trajectory with another five interceptions, nine pass breakups and three forced fumbles. He's massively reduced the big plays he allowed in his rookie season and is seeing less targets, yet his production remains high considering the chances he's getting. The lone weakness on his resume remains his tackling effort, which is often more of a strip attempt than staying genuine in his form.

—NFL1000 DB Scout, Ian Wharton

Peters is one of the most exhilarating and frustrating boom-and-bust players in the NFL. When he's on point, he's obviously an interception machine, with the ability to see the entire field and the athleticism to jump routes that aren't even his to cover. There are also times when he'll break technique and allow big plays. The Chiefs have made a bargain with the upside of Peters' talent, knowing that the downside is also inevitable. If Peters can stay assignment-correct on every play, he has the potential to be the best pass defender of his generation.

—NFL1000 Lead Scout Doug Farrar
