Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

They are a sweat little rifle. I bought mine for $100 off my uncle 35 years ago. Up until now it was my go to rifle for hunting tree rats. With it being made back in the middle 60s and in Belgium the value is just too high for me to continue to hunt with it. I've shot just about every ammo on the market though it and it just eats them all. Only knocks against it is needing a special scope mount that mounts over the dovetail for the rear sight if you want to take it down and still have the scope zeroed. The other knock is it ejects casings out the bottom. If you're wearing long sleeves make sure to have your cuffs done up tight..lol. It has a way sending those hot little honeys right down your sleeve. All that said though it shoots great and is extremely accurate.

I'm looking at a Remington 597 heavy barrel to replace my SA-22. Anyone have any opinions on it? Good or bad.

I went shopping for gun safes at Cabela's and Tractor Supply Co. over the weekend. Cabela's put out a bunch of factory 2nds for $799.99, which is about $100 or $200 off the normal price. They all had minor scratches, dents, or paint blemishes. And TSC had a Winchester 24-gun for $699.99 that I had my eye on. To be honest, I thought the Winchester was nicer than some of the similar-sized brand new safes at Cabela's, let alone the factory 2nds. It even comes with a door organizer.

Well, the Winchester went on sale for $649.99, so I decided to jump on it. I had to get a raincheck since they didn't have any in the back. But I should be able to pick it up in the next week or two. It'll be my first safe.

Haven't shot one of the 597s, but the heavy-barrel model looks good - this article likes 'em, a lot of the responses are from folks who have a beef - see what you think. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...-heavy-barrel/

Pretty cool option for the 17 WSM(IF the semi-auto doesn't have issues like 17 HSM did).

I would say that was a very good investment! I haven't decided if I'm going to hang the mount and scope on it, but likely I will.

This looks like a fun little gun in a .17HMR. Anyone own any Alexander arms?

Looks like we have old Donger giving a review here.

I own one. i can't see a heavy barrel making it anymore accurate. It is the most accurate out of the box semi auto 22 I have ever owned. comes with target crown. they can have feeding issues as the 2 guide rods for the bolt can be over torqued or under torqued,I forget which it is. easy fix
The 10 round mag works best with only 8 rounds in it,no problems with the 30 round banana mag. that all being said, it shoots circles around my 10/22,& Henry001. They made them for awhile in 17hmr then recalled them. id still like one in HMR

edit/ if i was gonna lay out cash for a heavy B I would go with the 22mag

IMO, it comes down to what feels best in your hand. I actually went in the local shop to buy a 19, but came out with an XD. It just felt better to me. I don't think I handled a Gen 4 though...not sure how much different the ergonomics are than the previous models.

It's a nice safe. A buddy of mine got his at TSC on a Black Friday Deal. He seems to like it. I liked the multiple locking points.

I actually bought a Stack On brand gun safe on Black Friday from Wal-Mart. I paid about $100 less, and we both liked it better, minus the multiple locking points.

Yeah, I took my 10/22 to my Dad's the other day and we plinked for a while. I kind of cringed with every POP though, knowing how hard it is to find right now.

Here's the deal with mine: I bought the top of the line savage rifle, it's got the super nice wood stock with the thumb hole, and it's got the super nice jeweled bolt group, along with the 22" longer barrel. I've put a Leupold scope on it. I've had zero issues with the Hornady ammo and rifle, but I've heard that other people have had issues with the ammo/rifles.

I contacted Hornady via email to voice my concerns and they replied and said it was a rifle issue, not an ammo issue. They told me to test fire the ammo I had (I gave the batch numbers because I read that the batch number I had was supposedly bad ammo) and I did test fire and I had no problems.

So I really think it's best to spend the money on a higher end savage. For whatever reason, the high end savages don't have any issues where as the lower end savages, well, they "might" have an issue with the Hornady ammo.
woops, lol.
