KU's a better job now, but I think SMU has the higher ceiling (and by a fair amount).

Never, ever underestimate the amount of stupid money that is in Dallas and the number of trust-fund brats and energy tycoons that think their dicks get larger when they throw money at college programs.

If you take T. Boone Pickens, bequeath him his money, divide it by 10 but then multiply the answer by several thousand individuals, you'll get the booster climate in Dallas.

If the Big East stabilizes and SMU shows some success in it, I could see it immediately becoming a pretty nice little job to have, especially since Houston is coming with them.

If you have the ego to believe you can turn it around, I would think SMU could be seen as the more attractive job.

SMU doesn't need turning around, they are on the way up. They need someone to take the success and talent they currently have and sustain it. There is plenty of old money in Texas with SMU ties. They can probably shell out a very competitive offer.

I'm not sure you've seen KU's facilities recently.

They are hardly "lame".

Read closely, I said the stadium was lame. (or have they added more of those inflatable chairs in the end zone recently?) Others such as herbsreit have said facilities were an issue.

KU has some VERY nice facilities. Their football facility (minus that POS stadium) is top notch.

SMU Football does have more accomplishment than KU. More national titles, more hall of famers, etc...

However, it is still a school that people look at as a "historical" program; along the lines of Notre Dame, Army, Nebraska, etc. It's very difficult to get back to national prominence once you've been driven down so far.

KU being in the Big 12 alone makes it's a job that's 10x better. The recent success at KU proves that once things get rolling it is a team that can appear on the national stage.

Now SMU is close to that but who knows. June Jones left to get to a BCS conference. Not sure the Big East is going to hold on to that BCS status.

They don't compare.

Not saying Kansas' stadium is upper lever but calling it "lame" is just plain being anit-KU.

It's historic (built in the 20's). Still has the track because the football crowds haven't ever driven out the need to preserve the Kansas Relays. Continue selling it out like they were 4 years ago and that track is coming out.

That's the only complaint I have about it. Otherwise it's a terrific setting for a game.

2:28 p.m. Update:
I'm seeing posts on message boards throughout the Internet saying that radio stations in and around Kansas City are reporting that Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn has been hired by KU. Evidently, that's not correct.
A quick call to an official who works at the university said the following:
"I can tell you right now there isn't anybody yet. They're reaching."
I figured as much, but worth checking on.
Stay tuned...

Oh yeah. I read that SZ is keeping this very tight for that exact reason. He has reminded everyone of that fiasco and doesn't want to make the same mistake.
