If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

Let's not fully ignore the positives Alex Myth brings to the table while exaggerating his weaknesses. Not much point in that.

Alex Smith was on pace LAST YEAR of having an extremely similar year as Steve Young had at age 31 (his breakout year)

AKA his first full year starting.

Back in an era where 25 TD passes was good enough for #1.

When was Steve Young ever near the bottom of the league in third down conversion percentage and yards per completion?

Alex Myth 2012
8 games
218 attempts
1737 yards
13tds
5ints

Steve Youngs breakout year at age 31
402 attempts
3465 yards
25 tds
7ints

If Alex remains the starter the whole year, he probably gets to those levels of production last year.

Let's be fair.

Let's be fair:

Steve Young was throwing the ball down the field in 1991.

This is 2013 and Alex Smith checks that ****er down at embarrassing levels.

Steve Young's #'s were good enough to put him at the top of the class in his era.

Alex Smith's #'s are good enough to put him in the bottom half of the league in his era.

I can see the similarities though...

EVERYBODY knows those state and all we have heard and talked about are the negative parts of his game...I think it would be fair to talk about what his possible upside gets realized.

I don't think he can be "Steve Young" but in 1989/1990 people didn't think Steve Young could be "Steve Young".

Also, Mormons.

Steve Young born in Utah and went to BYU...Alex Myth went to Utah.

What? People absolutely thought Steve Young could play at a high level, because he had done so in short doses before.

For ****'s sake look at what he did in 1987. 10 TD passes in 69 attempts? Sick.

1989 he was also excellent in relief.

I don't believe for a second that Andy Reid is an idiot or that I know more than him about QBs and he obviously LOVES Alex Myth...what's the harm in talking Bout what he possibly sees in him.

Maybe it's Steve Young.

Pass attempts are relative.

I've posted over and over that if Alex Myth had the pass attempts of Phillys quarterbacks from last year, he throws for 4500+ yards.

In 1991, Steve Young averaged 8.6 ypa
In 2012, Alex Myth averaged 8.1 ypa

I'm hopefull he is a late bloomer...sure would make the games fun to watch again.

You are ignoring Steve Young being among the league leaders in yards per completion and Alex Smith bringing up the ass end.

Stop quoting YPA to defend Alex Smith. IT'S A LIE.

If Alex Smith is really Steve Young then we'll see that immediately this season. No excuses. He has the line, he has receivers, he has tight ends, he has a running game. If the ceiling for him really is Steve Young, there's no reason he shouldn't be a top-10 QB with this offensive line-up. Right away. And for all the "we have to be patient" BS I say this: Drew Brees threw for 4500 yards and 28 TD his first season in NO.

Well who the **** wouldn't if you had Jerry Rice, John Taylor stretching the field. With guys like Brent Jones and Wesley Walls in the middle and then lets not forget yet some other guys like Ricky Watters, Tom Rathman. There was plenty of talent at all levels and areas of the field on those teams.

Well, I do value Alex Smith very little, so maybe I'm undervaluing him, or maybe I'm right. He's never had a season as good as Cassel's 2010, and I don't see any reason for him to suddenly improve with less talent around him.

I do see an improvement in coaching. That's why I think you guys will triple your win total.

The whole idea of the defense improving due to the offense improving doesn't really happen though. Look at the Patriots.
