You're right. My apologizes to Jon Baldwin for comparing him to a dude who was so out of control he was banished by one of the least disciplined teams in football. I was out of line.

Especially when your new GM comes from a team that's had success drafting receivers in rounds 2-4, the smart move is Titus Young.

Seriously though... it'd be different maybe if this guy's a #1. He might certainly have some success going forward. What's his ceiling though? Does anyone really think this guy is really a top 10-15 WR? This isn't TO or Moss we're talking about here.

If you trust your personnel department at all, you should be able to get #2 WRs in the mid rounds of the draft. The Packers certainly drafted enough of them over the last several years.

you were comparing him to Jon Baldwin's production

Titus Young actually has a productive skillset for the NFL unlike Jon Baldwin, if you take away the immaturity. On the field it is not even close who the better player/talent is

The Steelers should sign him and feed him to Todd Haley.

Good points.

But with needs at QB, CB, S, ILB, and WR I'd prefer us to spend on one of the options at WR in free agency. We could probably add a quality starter at S and WR and still keep Bowe and Albert...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

As the 43rd pick of the 2011 draft approached, the Detroit Lions zeroed in on a talented player they had identified for a specific role in their offense. The Lions wanted an explosive vertical threat who could capitalize on the chunks of yardage available for anyone playing opposite Calvin Johnson, and they believed Boise State's Titus Young was best suited for that role.

Young was drafted ahead of three other receivers in the round. Most of us who watched him over the past two years would agree he has the talent to rival Torrey Smith (No. 58 overall to the Baltimore Ravens), Greg Little (No. 59 to the Cleveland Browns) and Randall Cobb (No. 64 to the Green Bay Packers). In the end, however, Young will go down as arguably the worst mistake Lions general manager Martin Mayhew has made in his five-year tenure. Releasing him Monday was an obvious, inevitable and overdue move -- a stunning fall for a high-second-round draft pick.

Hindsight is always 20-20, but it seems clear Mayhew underestimated the character issues that all teams were aware of prior to the 2011 draft. Young had been suspended in 2008 for behavior issues, and it wasn't difficult to find an NFL personnel man who privately expressed concern about his personality quirks.

Young's implosion included acts of violence and insubordination that you don't often see, even in a rough-and-tumble industry. His primary and known offenses -- sucker punching safety Louis Delmas last spring and reportedly lining up in the wrong position intentionally last December -- are not just examples of immaturity. They are signs of a troubled soul who isn't equipped at this point in his life to function in the NFL's high-pressure world.

I hope he spends some time getting his life together before pursuing a new NFL team. Last month's bizarre set of tweets suggested Young has much work left to do. Those of you who have been asking if the Minnesota Vikings, or any other team, should claim him are missing how serious of a situation he is in.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/pos...s-such-a-waste

there's really no justification for thinking he'll do anything but continue to be a pain in the ass as a human being...

but still, the thought of getting his talent off the trash heap for nothing is tempting, won't lie...

Titus Young on Megatron: 'I'm better than him'

The Detroit Lions released mouthy wide receiver Titus Young on Monday after a series of run-ins between the 23-year-old and his superiors.

Young was outspoken -- especially on Twitter -- and, beyond that, the Lions' brass apparently feared possible emotional issues and had reportedly suggested therapy for the receiver. He didn't cooperate and was let go, but not before revealing that he believed himself to be a better receiver than the Texans' Calvin Johnson, the NFL's leader in receiving yards each of the past two seasons.

Young's high school coach, E.C. Robinson, told the Detroit Free Press that he and Young spoke at Christmas, and the second-year pro out of Boise State had some pretty interesting viewpoints.

“He did tell me he thought he was just as good Megatron,” Robinson said, according to the paper. “I said, ‘Titus, come on.' I said, ‘Come on, man. Who you talking to?' I said, ‘Come on, you're as good as that guy? This guy is the real deal.' And he really believes this. And he was sincere about it. ‘Ah man, I'm better than him.' I said, ‘No you're not. Be real man. Come on.' So I don't know, I'm hoping for the best for him.”

Certainly not short on talent, Young appeared unable to accept his role in Detroit, even going as far to tweet that he wasn't selfish, he just wanted the ball -- or else he wasn't going to play.

It's obvious Young has some issues he needs to work out, especially if he hopes to find a welcoming landing spot on the open market.

And he should probably cool it with all the I'm-better-than-Calvin-Johnson talk

You guys are smoking crack if you think bringing in Titus Young is a good idea. Yeah, he's talented, but he's a dipshit.

BTW, don't we already have an older version of him w/o the mouth piece on the roster already?

I'll take Titus Young ONLY if we get JaMarcus Russell and get Lawrence Phillips out of prison to play for us. Any other way and there's no deal.
