Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

I'm thinking Gran Torino, The Unforgiven, Cool Hand Luke, The Cowboys, & Cuckoo make a great top 5.
Go into search. It will come up with, "site:chiefsplanet.com/BB" That's only part of the search results, though. You have to type in "site planet. com/BB" and it will give you all the results.

Id reccomend it to anyone who has some free time and wants to laugh a little bit and watch Brooklyn Decker prance around in a swimsuit half the movie.
Thanks for the recommendation. My wife and I were looking for something to watch last night and settled on this...partly because I remembered seeing something in this thread. Left out the Brooklyn Decker part though.

Afterward, it made me think about Sandler movies in general. I wouldn't call any of them great and it seems like all of them have received poor reviews from critics. However, at least in my own opinion, all of them are enjoyable. With a Sandler movie, you know you're going to get some laughs (loved the coconut competition scene in this movie!) as well as a "feel good" ending. All of his movies seem to follow this same formula, but the end result is always satisfying.

Plain Clothes on Netflix Instant. A youngish cop infiltrates a high school to prove his brother isn’t a murderer.

This is a really underrated movie guys. Not available on DVD, I hadn't seen it in years and happened upon it on Netflix Instant.

An excerpt from the Mutan Review: http://www.mutantreviewers.com/rplainclothes.html

Quote:
See, just as Fletch made me want to be an investigative reporter, Plain Clothes made me want to have a brother and to be a cop that could go undercover to prove his innocence. Naturally, Nick Dunbar (Arliss Howard in his greatest role with hair!) is on suspension from the force when he poses as a high school student to investigate the murder of a teacher that his brother is in jail for, otherwise it wouldn’t be an 80's lone wolf comedy. Really, the plot is pretty simple, although it’s also very complex. That is, the set-up is simple, but the execution is quite unique and the structure of the mystery is refreshingly intricate. Even better, the progress Nick makes from weird transfer pre-goth student (that’s how some of them dressed back then, children of the 90's!) to popular laidback kid with cool hat is believable.

I don’t want to give too much away, because every time I watch Plain Clothes I enjoy how different it is from other movies of its kind. I like that Nick hated high school the first time around but doesn’t keep reminding the audience of it. The entire film is like that: it assumes that you’ve been paying attention all along so it’s not going to pound any info into you to the point of boredom. I like that Suzy Amis is believably hot as a young teacher (hmm, young cop, young teacher, what will happen?), I like that George Wendt is equally funny and sweaty as a would-be psychologist who gets stuck as the shop teacher, I like that Diane Ladd plays with the old emotions and it’s hard to tell just which side she’s on. And Seymour Cassel is good in anything (see: Rushmore); as Nick’s elder partner and “dad” he’s perfect as the somewhat straight man. Throw Robert Stack, Harry Shearer, and Abe Vigoda into the mix and you literally can not go wrong. Good times!

Watched Ip Man on Netflix tonight. (because of a post I saw here.) Really liked it. The sequel is also on Netflix, and the reviews are even better.

Larry Crowne was lame. I love Tom Hanks, and I've nothing against Julia Roberts, but this was boringly dry despite.
