It does. If LeBron pissed off refs at the same level and to the same extent as Kobe and Durant, why wouldn't he have the same number of technicals? Why would his technicals be so low every year compared to them?

The athletes good enough to take advantage in MJ's day did, same as they did now. There are just way more of them now and they play at a much higher level, creating more such occurences and opportunities for it to occur.
Ok, so you must have just started watching basketball about 3-5 years ago.

There's no way you were watching basketball 20 years ago if you're posting what you're posting here. For that to be true, you would have to have suffered significant memory loss at some recent point in your life, because you're talking crazy.

I'll just say that the nature of the complaining hasn't a bit since I started watching this league. Highly competitive athletes are highly competitive athletes and they'll try for any advantage they can possibly get.

Was watching the NBA when the SuperSonics were my favorite team before the Raptors even were created (which was 18 years ago now)

Would I be able to remember that I experienced significant memory loss in such a scenario?

I had floor seats at Celtics games in the 80's (not every game, just occasionally). As a Celtics fan who had to listen to Ainge with his whining, and hated it, all I can tell you is that even he was tame compared to what you get out of average players in today's game. That sort of crap wasn't happening all over the place when Riley was running the Knicks and they were beating the shit out of their opponents as a game strategy, either.

It's not even close.

I don't know. You can't remember the difference in player complaints with officials when people and players have noticed it just within the past decade. The league saw it, which is why they changed the rules about it (allegedly along with market research).

One person's subjective account. For me, the complaining about calls in the NBA has always been a relative constant with little change in that regard (and although I obviously can't speak directly for things that went on in the 80s, I have watched games from that era and earlier and noted much the same stuff going on).

It still sounds a lot like nostalgia for a supposed better era gone by to me (similar to how people believe that we're living in the worst, most violent, crime filled era in history without realizing that the past was far worse). This perceived effect could be a product of every game being broadcast and more being able to see such complaining directly and more often. It doesn't necessarily mean there is any more of it.

If your argument covered just the 80's, I'd have to acknowledge the possibility that you might have at least some point here. However, I hated 90's basketball and have no nostalgia for the era, and my point still applies when comparing today's game to that time (Riley's Knicks, for example).

Nope, have watched many pre-1990 games on NBATV and online over the years.

You cannot say that and honestly make the claims you have, so I'm not buying it.

Buy whatever you want. I can only report on what I've seen. And complaining about officiating certainly isn't something restricted to the Stern era throughout NBA history.

I didn't say it never happened. I even pointed to Ainge whining like a bitch. What I said was that the complaining then wasn't close to what it has been recently. You can call it one man's opinion, but it is what it is. I've followed the league since sometime between 79 and 81 (depending on how much viewing you need before you call it following), and the evolution of whining has taken place just like the evolution of a lot of the game.
