Vegging it for 40 days?

I'm not Catholic, so I never observe Lent. However, I'm considering giving up meat for 40 days. I haven't had any today, so I figure I have until lunch to consider it. I know I'm talking to a group of grillers in the BBQ capital, but maybe there are some vegetarians in the group? Any advice?

Ban guns. Ban tipping. Ban Cassel. Ban soft drinks. (oh wait, they actually did that)

You will certainly get healthier if you give up meat but you might turn into a pussy so don't.

I'm Catholic and from New Orleans so all we really do is give up meat on Friday's during Lent season.

You will be a raving lunatic if you give up meat that whole time.

Maybe limit it to one meal a day or something.

Beans, greens, eggs, nuts, complex grains (like quinoa) are your friends.

Cheese and grains are fine in small portions, but a lot of vegetarians go crazy on the cheese, grains, and bread, which isn't all that healthy.

Also, I'll put my and my wife's general fitness and strength up against 98% of this board (including Buck).

Morningstar frozen burgers and such are excellent tasting.

And now they make a 1/4 burger. You can hardly tell the difference.

But if it's only 1/4 won't you get hungry?

I meant 1/4 pounder.

So you make a double meat patty with some frozen french fries.

That will fill you up.

Look at these Steak Fajitas.

Tell me you could resist these for 40 days???

Sure, shrimp is good, but not really if it's battered and deep fried, cooked and served with gobs of butter, etc.
hush ... this thread has moved past you.

Harvard study made big headlines earlier this year when the scientists found that potatoes – in any form – were linked to weight gain. Scientists tracked the diet and lifestyle choices of more than 120,000 participants for at least 12 years. They found that over four-year spans, those who ate an extra serving of French fries daily gained an average of 3.4 pounds, those who munched an extra serving of potato chips daily gained an average of 1.7 pounds, and an additional serving of potatoes prepared in any form was linked to an average of 1.3 pounds of extra padding. Hmmm, not so great news.

Potatoes convert to sugar.

Sugar produces insulin in your blood and screws up weight loss and metabolism.

I think I have that right.

potato = starch

starch doesn't convert as quickly as sugar, but its faster than a complex
