A look at 2014 Free Agents - Who should we pursue?

Obviously, there are several vulnerable spots on the roster that could and should be improved upon. John Dorsey isn't a huge free agency guy, or hasn't been in the past, and will no doubt look to improve many of our problems through the draft. There are, however, several big name guys that could garner some attention from the Chiefs. Here are a few positions that I think we need to improve upon, and the 2014 FA's for those positions (age of FA shown). Feel free to add to the mix. I've bolded a few players that I think we may show interest in.

3 of our OL are coming up as FA's (Schwartz, Asamoah, and Albert) so we'll need to pick up a few pieces or resign some guys. I'm betting Albert is gone.

Who should we pursue? Who should we avoid?

Discuss.

WR
Eric Decker, 26
Jeremy Maclin, 25

Hakeem Nicks, 25
Anquan Boldin, 33
Golden Tate, 25
Kenny Britt, 25

they should also cut Mike DeVito, that guy ****ing sucks. Replace all our DEs with new blood. Guys that maybe don't lose their 1 on 1 matchups and play patty cake and cant rush the passer to save their lives while Poe, Hali or Houston take a double team.

No. I just think that for what we are getting out of Berry we can find someone for half the cost.

Berry is a baller, sure, but if we are going to spend 10+ mil on a safety, I really want someone who is going to not only stop big plays downfield, but also get turnovers.

It's not that Byrd is that much better of a player, but I think his role is more valuable.

And no - I don't want Desean Jackson. Two years into a contract and he already is griping? No thanks. My wide receiver preference is way more Marvin Harrison than Desean Jackson.

I really prefer wide receivers who get their production out of being technically solid. Running great routes. Catching with their hands. I'll take a 6'1 205 pound technician over a 170 pound burner or 6'4 jump ball guy any day. Of course, that's why Megatron is Megatron. He is all of those things.

FS is just a more valuable position in our defensive scheme than SS is; I highlighted that earlier in this thread.

Berry is a playmaker, though. He's been getting INTs, forcing fumbles and pressuring QBs all season long. If we had even average FS play we'd be able to see it more often.

With the $20 million or however much of a cap hit we're taking between both Berry and Flowers combined, there's just no money for another big secondary signing. We're going to have to make due with someone that's not too expensive. There are hungry guys out there that can do the job; we just have to find him.

Lewis has had some stellar ****ing job security. Four years starting and not even a worry that the dude's job was in jeopardy.

How this guy made it through three different coaching staffs with his job is beyond me.

yes he does.

if you want to make an argument to defend 28 tackles and 0 sacks, be my guest. But my take is enough run stuffers in a passing league. It does us no good.

I'd rather have been beaten by trent richardson/donald brown and a running game than Andrew Luck. So I want DEs that can rush a ****ing passer. We have zero. I don't know why guys like DeVito are severely overhyped on here, but they are, but it also shows on Sunday a different picture.

Cut Devito? Are you crazy? Do you remember Dorsey? You could make an argument he was our best free agent signing. Did you see how the back ups got gashed against the run at San Diego? It's not all about pass rushing. He is a damn good 3-4 DE. He's as solid as they come and we lucky to have him.

I disagree with that. Teams game plan for Berry. He and Poe are the biggest threats on our defense in my opinion. They are what make it go. His versatility is rare. FS might have been more important in the Jets scheme but our scheme isn't the same as the Jets by any means. It's based off the Jets but it ain't the Jets.

No, he isn't awesome, but he IS a damn good depth/rotational guy.

Letting Jackson walk free's up money and a spot for the pass rusher we hopefully get either in the draft or free agency, we can also always hope Catapano does whatever he has to do to get out of Suttons doghouse, that would give us the two desired rush ends.

But not keeping DeVito to go with Bailey for depth/situational packages would be friggin dumb... most players aren't stars, you gotta have the blue collar guys.

Devito played on maybe 50% or less of our defensive snaps. He's making too much for a guy who doesn't do much on this defense beyond taking up space on the field. Sorry but a UDFA could do that for you. Powe could do the same thing at a much lower price. This year may be one of the best UDFA classes in a while and there will likely be more overlooked gems than the usual 3-4 due to the amount of underclassmen who declared this year.
