Even after his last two seasons, would you still trade Alex Smith for Phillip Rivers?

A buddy of mine and I at work were discussing this today. He says no way but I'd do it in a heartbeat. I cant stand the douche and he has been pretty bad lately but I still think Rivers has more potential to get us a playoff win than Alexis. And yes, Im that beat down as a Chiefs fan...all I want is one playoff win.

No doubt Smith is a game manager, but are you saying that the Chiefs are not improving? Despite last years record, the team has some talent and got a MUCH better coach, added some nice pieces to the D and A.Smith is head & shoulders above the likes of casshole & quinnterception.

I'm not expecting playoffs, but I do think they will be 8-8 to 9-7, which is a pretty nice improvement over what we saw last year

Personally, I think it has to do more with the fact that Rivers is declining, the players tuned out Norv and the personnel decisions have been poor.
Solid take, & agreed.

The funny thing about Rivers is that he's one of those guys who seems unlikable, but I think he's actually okay. He obviously really likes football, and he was the guy who got kind of screwed over by the Eli Manning spoiled-brat whinefest. Whereas Eli Manning pouted and cried and got his way, Rivers just said, "Hey, send me wherever, and I'll go." I respect that, and I still despise Manning for what he did.

You are absolutely correct. Rivers is a much, much better QB than Smith.

Tough, tough question. The rivers of two, maybe three years ago, yes, no hesitation. The Rivers from last year looks like his confidence is shot. He looks like one of those QBs that has been hit too many times and is way to quick to check down/rush the throw. I'd still hesitatnly pull the trigger on that swap though

The bigger question is do you remember CP melting down that the Chiefs cut him and then he was the starting LT for the Chargers and playing so well while we had Barry Richardson at RT?

Do you remember that part? Because that also happened.

Now Clay is using Gaither as an example of a bad OL when he was bashing Pioli for letting him go.

Rivers has 1,199 Yards / 11 TD / 2 INT through 4 games.

Smith has 4 wins though.

Rivers is obviously has more talent. He also has an ability to squander that talent with a ten cent brain in spectacular fashion. The fact that Alex Smith has the fortitude to still be in the league with the depths that his career has taken him shows he is much stronger mentally than Phillip "cry me a" Rivers.
