2.Kim Deal(ummm...download "Into the White" by the Pixies)

1.Claypool (he reinvented what a bass guitar could do and meant)


Of course these are only recent R&R selections.If it was taken further,
Jazz,Funk,and BeBop old-schoolers need to be considered as well.

Sorry, Victor Wooten is hands-down the best. When I lived in Nashville, we'd always go down to 3rd and Lindsley on Wednesday nights to watch the Wooten brothers play. It was unreal.

I thinks the topic of discussion is still somewhat subjective. One who can stroke the strings faster may not indicate raw talent. I think Les puts on a good show with his unorthodox style that is anything but glam. However, He is one of the few that could/can appeal to people of Mississippi
as well as La/Hollywood (not that I care about Hollywood.)

Lastly, I hate to use this word because often it is used. But he never sold-out to commercial-> when he very easily could've.

All of the above is what makes him the best/most appealing bass player.

Victor Wooten with Stanley Clarke (and Marcus Miller thrown in to boot - talk about a bass fest!!!)

what's even more amazing to me about this, is that you have arguably 3 of the top 5 or so living bassists together sharing the stage. Wooten taking the high end, Miller on the low, and Clarke in the middle.

I was just looking at Claypool's Bio. I can;t believe it has been 14 years since Primus headlined Lollapalooza. Damn I feel old. Also sad that was the last decent Lollapalooza lineup.
