Star Trek: Beyond

Paramount just released the trailer to Star Trek Beyond. I am less than pleased overall.

Justin Lin, the director of the last 3 F&F movies, is at the helm of this bullshit and from the tiny snippet of Simon Pegg jumping out of a pod and hanging off the side of a cliff... it looks equally as campy as F&F.

Justin Lin, the director of nothing but remakes and sequels, is also the guy in charge of the reshooting (because there won't be anything new about it) of the Highlander movie.

I love Trek but this new movie series has been largely garbage. Little to no rewatchability at all for either movie. For the first time ever... I am more excited for something Star Wars related than Trek.

If he's toeing a company line, I assume it's about the trailer and not the movie itself.

I hope so. It's going to take something special to remove the putrid stink STD left in my brain. That trailer certainly is not it.

That's stupid dialogue.

"Is that music?" What the **** do you think it is, Scotty? If you're questioning its value, that was terrible delivery.

"It's a good choice." What the **** kind of a response is that?

Whats funny is that they want us to believe that people will be listening to the Beastie Boys a couple hundred years from now. Sorry but that shit isn't Mozart.

Didn't say it wasn't, but the song had an Abrams universe antecedent. They didn't just pick it out of the air and say, "Oh here's some music, who cares of it fits?"

Past trailers: Reboot: The first one I had the same feeling as this one (not talking original teaser), but subsequent trailers got better and the movie was great.

ITD: I thought all the trailers were strong (#2 trailer was probably my favorite, though), and okay movie that could have been better w/o the WoK rips. But still didn't hate or dislike it like some.

This trailer: Needed much work, but again nothing pulled out of thin air as a WTF?, given the history of the reboot universe.

But yeah, that trailer is a hot mess. I'll still reserve judgement since Simon Pegg wrote the script.
Pegg is the only reason I'm completely dismissing that shitty trailer and holding out hope it'll be better than what the trailer showed.

He's a hardcore Trekkie- and this trailer doesn't even remotely feel like it's associated with the franchise.

Possibly a purposeful attempt to cast a wider net to attract a larger audience?

The ST faithful are going to buy their ticket no matter what. I just don't buy that Pegg would abandon the makeup of ST.

I keep hearing people say this, but it's not even remotely true. I won't be watching it until AFTER reviews. None of my friends plan to see it opening weekend either. We were all pissed off about JJ and STD. Unless reviews are overwhelmingly positive from a Trek POV, most of us will likely wait for Netflix.

So they just played this trailer before 10 Cloverfield Lane. I hated this trailer when it premiered, but for some reason I liked it today. WTF.

Okay, maybe "liked" was too strong. But I didn't hate it today.

They're doing reshoots and "adding" characters. That doesn't sound promising.

Yeah, I saw that they added Shohreh Aghdashloo as Federation President a couple days ago. Seems pretty late in the game for a movie out in 4 months.

I'd agree, but the timing isn't great.
The movie may be all good?

We'll see, obviously. But I still have high expectations. But I'm one of the few that really enjoyed the last two. So...
