Dorsey: "8-10 legitimate trade discussions" during the draft

I'll double check the podcast later to make sure I heard the numbers right, but it was a brief answer during the final four of an interview with Petro on 810 a few minutes ago. He added that they were extremely active on the phones this year.

Just thought I'd mention it, since there's been some recent concern voiced about how active the team was(n't) moving draft picks around this weekend.

You hit the nail on the head.

Unfortunately the Chiefs just didn't have the ammo to do what many would have liked them to do.

If Chiefs don't leak that bullshit about Alex Smith's contract being in trouble then maybe the Cleveland Browns don't jump ahead of us and Johnny Manziel is sitting there when we pick.

maybe that's why the chiefs leaked it, so they would take shit for passing on Manziel in favor of Dee Ford.

This was not a part of the main interview, it wasn't some PR point he was trying to hit. It was an off-the-cuff comment. Nothing defensive about it in any way, shape or form. Just seemed like an honest answer to an unanticipated question.
Have you heard Seaboldt's impression of Dorsey yet? Work in progress, but I think it's pretty damn funny.

Not yet. This week was the first time I've had any sports radio on in months.

There had to have been teams out there willing to deal an extra 4th based on the other trade-up deals that took place around us. I would certainly have taken a scenario where we could have grabbed someone like Attaochu instead of Ford and taken an extra player. An extra HIGH QUALITY player, mind you. Could have been an Abbrederis or an extra NT that people wanted us to invest in.

There was some talk that Condon leaked it, rather than the team, but I'm not sure what his reason to do so would have been.

Sometimes you just have to trust your scouting...
I think that (within reason), it's usually better to overpay a bit and get the guy you want than to try to scrape up some late round pick and put it all to chance.

A third rounder is probably not going to change the team, but getting the first rounder you want or not getting him may in fact change the team.

Reminds me of last year when we were all outraged that we didn't pick Geno Smith at 1.1.

Maybe Condon cockblocked the Chiefs from drafting a QB to replace Smith and keep the leverage for his client. If he doesn't leak it then the Chief now have Johnny Manziel and Alex Smith has lost leverage. A theory.
