Chiefs This is not the first time...

For those of you who are not long time Chiefs fans, there was another tragic murder-suicide back in 1980 involving a Chiefs player. Jim Tyrer, who was an All-Pro tackle for the Chiefs, played his last game in KC in 1973. In 1980, he was having serious money troubles, and shot his wife dead, then killed himself, in his KC home with all four of his kids in the house.

That was very shocking in 1980. Tyrer wasn't an active player when he did this, but he was one of the Chiefs solid building block players, kind of like Will Shields or Tim Grunhard during his era. He protected Len Dawson's blind side.

Thanks, George. I actually didn't know Tryer killed himself, too. A lot of tragedy associated with this team, unfortunately.

Him killing himself and his family is why he is probablly not in the Hall of Fame.

Chiefs have certainly had their share of tragedy. We've had Stone Johnson, Mack Lee Hill, Derrick Thomas, Joe Delaney, Jim Tyrer and now this.

So sad, I just can't believe it. Still. May his family have peace and may the child be loved by everyone in her life. It's hitting me since we are leaving te hospital with our newborn.

I feel relieved he didn't shoot others at the end. Or shoot himself running down the field in front of the fans on Gameday like The Last BoyScout movie

But did he kill himself at Arrowhead? That's what I find so dark about this story, he went to do it in front of Pioli and Crennel for some reason and I want to know why.

I'm sure all of us are wondering that as well. Did he instantly realize what he did was wrong, so he went to one of the few places he knew as safe?

It's so bizarre.

An active NFL player killed himself in front of his Head Coach and GM.

And it was Jovan Belcher.

it's like out of the script of some terrible Hollywood 'B' movie...

I think Belcher went to Arrowhead because it was close to his GF's apartment. 53rd and Crysler is only about a mile or so from Arrowhead.

it's no use trying to ascertain what, exactly, was going through his head; he obviously wasn't thinking clearly when he shot her in front of their daughter and his mother.

For those of you not familiar with the neighborhood, here's a map. The "A" is close to where the GF's apartment is located, Arrowhead is in the upper left corner. It's about a two mile or so distance.
