I would take issue with you Senator, but I don't criticize until the day after the victory. Today I cherish the the win.

Bob Dole would appreciate someone sober running EG's numbers through a QB Rating calculator...

I also think Elvis did great. I am willing to lay down my Elvis sword and admit that I was wrong. Elvis looked great (after the interception) and the match between Grbac and Morris looks very promising.

Senator I'm not talking about numbers. I am talking about decisions. Actually I thought he looked better last week than he did today. Can you imagine what the game would've been like if they let him open up last week!

Had the recievers held on to the ball week one and had the leash been taken off game 2 we would be 3-0 and bowing at Elvis' feet. Alas...

120 is still good, and Bob Dole is thinking there's a java bug that's generating the 200+ rating.
Elvis rathing would have been 108 (if memory serves) week one if the catchable passes had been hauled in. He again, today, looked off his primary receivers and went through his progession as one would expect. He threw 5 TDs and one INT, and Bob Dole is perfectly conetent, no matter what the QB rating. |

Elvis is a good QB that has a chance to be more than good.
In case anybody hasn't noticed, he's STILL getting better and better. He finally has real weapons in Morris, Gonzales, Moreau, and TRich. I have been talking about his potential and 'defending' him for years. Luz i rather enjoyed todays game... |

Don't look now folks, but Elvis is #1 in the AFC in the most important passer stat:
Touchdown passes! Grbac should be the focus of the offense from here on out.... |

The maximum possible QB rating is 158.6.
Hopefully Elvis can do what he did today 13 more times. |

I don't know what happened today, and frankly, I don't care. I'm pleased as punch at today's performance, from what I've been able to read.
I hope Gun has learned something. Don't mess with success Gun!
|

Seems like the Grbashers never lose their momentum. The latest outcry (at least that I've read so far) are "that was a fluke game" and "Moon would have done better."
What you gonna do. Like I said, the guy could throw 50 TD's, 1 INT, 5,000 yards, and throw a perfect pass to Derrick Alexander to win the Super Bowl that Alexander drops, and people would still hate Grbac... |

Elvis did well today. The playcalling was much better, however. It remains to be seen how he will respond if we go back to the "run & punt" offense.
I've never been a Grbacker or Grbasher, but I do expect some consistency. The first 4 or 5 passes he threw were floaters to the outside. Even before the INT, their corners were breaking on the ball from 10 deep. I saw the INT coming 2 or 3 plays before it happened. ------------------ Parker ChiefsPlanet Administrator Jimmy Raye for President...anything to get him out of Kansas City More Moreau |

htismaqe,
I don't believe it was the passes themselves that were the problem. You are correct in saying that the D corners were keying on that pass, and that is why it was terrible playcalling to keep going back to that out pattern. I had a friend over for the game and I pulled out a laser pointer and played 'Madden with the Tellistrator' for him. It was obvious from the first time he threw that pass that the D had watched film and was expecting it. I continued to show him how unvaried our passing game was and what few routes we would be restricted to. I also calmly explained that because we have an apparent idiot making play calls, that we would be foolish enough to keep throwing that specific out pattern and that it would be intercepted for 7. That was one play before it actually happened. Somewhere around the start of the second quarter, the play calling changed (thank goodness). As if somebody flipped a switch, the pass routes changed and our O became effective. The ONLY explanation I can think of is that we scripted our first 15 plays, and ran them 'no matter what'. JR apparently started calling the game from that point on and (of course) did a better job of it. Luz just glad it worked out... [This message has been edited by Luzap (edited 09-18-2000).] |
