JoPo:Marquette fans steamed after MU’s late drama

http://www.kansascity.com/159/story/1101115.html

Good article as usual by Joe. I find it funny that after the lopsided calls of the game Marquette fans found more room to cry. Oh well. It isn't like MU did anything illegal.

It was a great coaching move. Any coach would've made that call.

Here is a great post by someone over there....

Quote:
Someone mentioned Marquette went 12 minutes in the first half without scoring a basket, however forgot to mention they scored 13 during that same 12 minutes, and missed 2 free throws. They also forgot to mention 6 times the ball went out of bounds and it was given to marquette even though it was clearly off Marquette. Twice there was two marquette players in between a mizzou player and the sideline when the ball bounced off them and went out of bounds, and the ball went right back to Marquette.
Yes Mizzou won in spite of having Big East officials, Big East announcers, Big East scorekeeper, and Big East statistician. It was obviously a big east statistician because Marquette was 36 for 43, from the free throw line and Mizzou was 11-14. In the first half Marquette was 21 of 23 and only scored 33. Mizzou, 2-3. Do the math!!
Great win MU, do the same to Memphis next week.

The reffing was a joke. You can tell the announcers and refs wanted that Marquette comeback story happening. I give credit to Marquette for being a great team, but more credit to MU for winning in what seemed to be a Marquette HOME game with the refs and media on their side.

Yea, it was amazing how the announcers never once questioned a call except the one that Carroll got away with.

I think if I had to pick one call that displayed how bad of an officiating job it was, it would be the one where Carroll and the Marquette guy were fighting over the ball and should have been called a tie up, instead it was called a foul on MU. I think that one blew the minds of several people.

I was mad about that call, bit I think the worst one was the continuation call after the Marquette player took two steps after the whistle blew, made the shot, and the refs counted it.

Was that the blatant travel or the one where they called the foul on Lyons on the breakaway where the guy basically tripped over his own feet and slid? The kid never even left his feet whent he whistle blew and they still called it a shooting foul.

I think people need to lay off the refs a bit.

There were two crucial calls in the last few seconds, one of which required replay to get right. And the end, they got both calls right.

It sucks to be Marquette, but they just got outplayed at the end of the game. Period.

I sort of wondered the same thing. WTF was he? He was saving him for the FT's I guess?
