ESPN reporter Britt McHenry suspended after berating towing company clerk
ESPN suspended reporter Britt McHenry for a week after a video of her berating a towing company employee surfaced Thursday.
The sports network announced her suspension on Twitter. McHenry posted an apology on Twitter, saying she allowed her emotions to get away from her during a stressful situation at a Virginia business. "I ... said some insulting and regrettable things." "As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake," she wrote. 'Lose some weight, baby girl' On the roughly one-minute long video that was captured by a surveillance camera, McHenry says to an employee at a register: "I'm in the news, sweetheart. I will (expletive) sue this place." The employee tells McHenry she's being recorded but it doesn't stop her from continuing her rant. "That's why I have a degree and you don't," she says. "I wouldn't work at a scumbag place like this. Makes my skin crawl even being here." Later McHenry says, "maybe if I was missing some teeth they would hire me, huh?" The employee apparently says something about McHenry's hair and the color of her roots. McHenry sasses back, saying, "Oh, like yours, 'cause they look so stunning, 'cause I'm on television and you're in a (expletive) trailer, honey. Lose some weight, baby girl." CNN reached out to the Arlington towing company for comment but didn't hear immediately back. The edited video was first posted on the website LiveLeak, which said the incident occurred April 5. The video inspired the Twitter hashtag #firebrittmchenry. The reporter is one of several ESPN on-air talents to be suspended in the past 12 months. In February, anchor Keith Olbermann was not on the air for most of a week after a Twitter spat that the anchor had with fans of Penn State University. Bill Simmons was suspended in September for three weeks for calling NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a liar. Commentator Stephen A. Smith was suspended in July for a week for widely criticized remarks about domestic abuse that referred to possible "provocation" by victims. With ESPN just one year McHenry is based in Washington and the incident happened across the Potomac River in Arlington. McHenry joined ESPN in 2014. At the time of her hiring, ESPN's senior vice president and director of news, Vince Doria, praised her knack for getting interviews with major sports celebrities. "In a relatively short time, Britt has established a reputation for strong, aggressive reporting in the D.C. area, and an ability to land big interviews," said Doria. "Her presence there will be a great benefit to ESPN's newsgathering and, as with all of our bureau reporters, she will be assigned to high-profile stories around the country." Prior to ESPN, she was with WJLA in Washington. McHenry joined the station in 2008 and the sports staff in 2010. She went to Stetson as an undergraduate and Northwestern for graduate studies in journalism. http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/16/us/esp...chenry-tirade/ |

Man, she is one snotty ***t, really thinks her shit doesn't stink... I think a weeks suspension is a joke, the things she said are disgusting.
And I didn't really care for the wording of her apology earlier, "taking the high road"... there isn't a high road to take here you dumb bitch, you ****ed up now pay up and stick that class snobbery up your ass. |

Living in DC I can tell you our parking signage is for shit and gets shittier in direct proportion to the amount of activity associated with a given area. Moreover, you have people double park during rush hour or park in lanes that are supposed to be cleared at rush hour that don't get towed. Then you get people who park in a neighborhood with shitty signage and you get towed because you didn't have the proper zoned sticker for that block but the zoned parking is done haphazardly and without logic so one can't even attempt to deduce whether or not a given spot is a zoned parking spot or not. Thus made to rely on shitty signage. And do the towing companies know this shit? Ab-so-****ing-lutely. They camp on zoned areas but leave the big ticket "work" of towing the rush hour **** heads to city trucks. Why? Because the turn over need for rush hour towing pretty much means that the tow company can't take the car to the impound but have to give courtesy tows to open areas in the vicinity. This cuts down on their revenue considerably. impound fees are gravy. And I guarantee that gap toothed, biscuit eating, mouth breathing, knuckle dragging twat at the tow company is just as shitty to anyone as she was getting that day. As far as I'm concerned the clam "just doing her job" has all she got and more coming her way for the I way I'm sure she's treated others in the past. How can I make such an assertion? It's a ****ing towing company. It is borderline legalized theft. Also, that joint has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.
As I said, probably more to this story but getting morally indignant at some pretty girl broad who lost her temper at one of the normal folk is easier for simple minds in the news media to grasp.

I used to work in a plaze in N. Va. There was a cable tv office there and people would pull up to the curb to run in and pay their bill. A tow truck company would sit and wait in this little alley. The second the person went inside they came out and could hook the car up in less than 30 seconds. It was like this T bar they lowered under the bumper.
Then they would demand $75 to unhook it. All day long it went on. I don't know if the people in the cable office warned people or not.

I have been just as ugly when getting bent over a barrel. I sympathize with her. I'm just curious about the events that led up to this. I know when I have lost my cool and levied personal attacks, there were a string of events that led to it.

Apparently she ate at a Chinese restaurant and then left her car there long after it closed.
