Gh4chiefs is right that the QB is always the focal point of any football team. The thing that amazes me is how every subject ends up being a diatribe against Jimmy Raye. He's just an assistant, after all; the coaching buck has to stop at the Head Coach.
orange - that might be true if Gun had any part in the offense. You know he was a DC... and a D position coach before that. He has always ben a 'defensive-minded' coach. Guys like him hire OCs & hand the offensive reigns over to them. That is why I think so many are anti-JR.
I do see your point - JR may be an incompetant fool... but Gun was the fool who retained him! [This message has been edited by HC_Chief (edited 09-11-2000).] |

Elvis played well and I believe that he is as frustrated as the rest of us. Just look at his quote. By the way, he did change a few plays.
It's so frustrating because we have a good offense," said Grbac, who acknowledged changing a few of the offensive plays sent in from the sideline. "We just don't see the numbers on the scoreboard... "We're getting 14 points. That's a joke." It's time to cut the damn leash and let this guy play. EG, IGNOR RAYE!!!!
|

HC,
I disagree about Gun having nothing to do with the offense. I thought he was working this offseason on rewriting the plays, getting Gonzo to split wide etc. At least he said he was. He does a lot of talking about getting people in mismatches, so I thought a lot of the playbook was from his input. Also, last season after one of the losses, Raye was asked why he ran it so much, and he said "ask the head coach". I just always got the impression that Gun was spending more time on the offensive side of the ball than the defensive side since he became Head Coach. |

Cormac - Gun says a lot of things... mostly in a rambling, barely-decipherable stammer. If Gun is the one calling these plays, I would hope Jimmy Raye has the brains/balls to say "Look, our O has been pathetic! We need a change!".
As for Grbac's comments re: only scoring 14 points - yes, that is pathetic... but what is even more pathetic is the fact our O only scored SEVEN points.... the other TD came by an Edwards INT for TD. |
