University Of Iowa Offers Porn Class

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Some University of Iowa students may be able to get an "A" in X-rated.

The school will be offering a class on porn in the fall semester. All 20 student slots have been filled and there's a waiting list.

Grad student Jay Clarkson is teaching the course. But he cautioned that students looking for a cheap thrill will be disappointed. He said no films or other explicit material will be shown in class. Clarkson said the class will examine the impact of porno on mainstream culture.

But Iowa House Speaker Chris Rants doesn't like the idea a bit. The lawmaker said the pornography class isn't something that should be taught with taxpayer's money.

I actually think this class is a good idea... considering that porn is so pervasive these days, (god bless you internet), that it could have social significance on the development of our society...

That sounds like someone pandering for votes, someone too lazy or pinheaded to even ask what the class is about, someone who just panics when he sees the word "porn". Evil sex!

Why wouldn't people who dislike porn be interested in studying its impact on mainstream culture?

I don't remember where I read it ??? Newsweek or 20/20 or 60 minutes did a study on Pornography on the internet and I won't put out a # of percentages as I don't remember them ... but somewhere over 50% of registered addresses are pornography related whether they were porns sites themselves or had advertising for pornsites on them.

Either way it was mind boggling just how much SMUT is out there. And it drives the internet more than people want to give credit to it for being that HUGE int he grand scheme of things.

I don't have a problem with porn on the internet ... my wife however is dead set against it so I have my hands pretty much tied while surfing!

We already visited this topic, 3 weeks ago about a pron school. There were jopkes about the mascot, etc...but what the heck, porn is ALWAYS in so people should be picking it up as soon as the Star Wars bit is over...
