Looks like we're playing a game of chicken with the B1G/PAC 12, the Florida President just said that the SEC will not compromise on top-4

not sure what you mean by that. Everyone in the world involved with the 13-year GOR has said, over and over again, consistently, that it'll be signed as part of the new TV deal. That hasn't changed, but people keep bringing that up as if it were an issue.

SEC draws line in playoff sand

Quote:
Florida president Bernie Machen said the SEC would not compromise on having the four highest ranked teams in the playoff rather than a group of conference champions.

"We won't compromise on that," Machen said at the SEC spring meetings. "I think the public wants the top four. I think almost everybody wants the top four."

At this juncture, such a bold statement raises some serious questions about whether conference leaders can reach a consensus. It's one thing for a league leader to say the conference prefers a particular model. It's quite another to eliminate all wiggle room on a particular issue.

If this top-4 model wins the day (or even if everything breaks down and we get no playoff), Notre Dame isn't going anywhere. The path would be wide and clear for FSU and Clemson.

The conferences that aren't in favor of top-4 are attempting to do the college football equivalent of "Tigerproofing" the playing field. They are so thirsty right now.

Colorado’s athletic department received a $10 million loan from the school and Colorado University system to cover a budget shortfall created with the CU’s move to the Pac-12, The (Boulder) Daily Camera reported.

Why the shortfall? The school lost $7 million as penalty for leaving the Big 12, and the school’s Pac-12 revenue faucet won’t be fully turned on until this year. In all, there was a $16 million deficit, but $6 million was covered by gifts to the school.

I believe their "no CCG" talk as much as I believe they aren't expanding. Once they go to 12, a CCG will happen.
If they playoffs don't happen they will take the Championship game no question. If they do happen, they are taking their increased odds of two playoff team and even more money.

This is nonsense.

You are equally, randomly, as likely to benefit from having a CCG as not. Last year the Big 12 would have benefitted from having Okie State beat just about anyone decent in a CCG, but instead they sat idle and got edged out. The big 12's coin landed on tails a few more times than it landed on heads, but the next coin flip could go either way.

There wasn't playoffs last year so I'm not sure at all what you're getting at. Yes not having a Championship game hurt last year, but that's a completely different scenario. That is why they are pushing for SOS to be heavily considered in choosing the four playoff teams.

Not that it will happen every year. But if there's no Championship game and twelve teams, that increases the chances of two teams out of like Texas, Oklahoma, WVU, TCU, Florida St. and so on to go undefeated. Even if one of those teams only has one loss they still have a good chance of making the playoffs.

Obviously there are a lot of factors that have to happen. But that's what they are pushing for and the SEC is on our side.

Okie State finished #3, and barely, BARELY got edged out. It was so close, just about anything would have gotten them into the championship game. This wasn't ancient history, it was less than a year ago. Some voters basically punished Okie State for not having to play, and rewarded the SEC loser for at least playing a CCG.

Lol I completely get your point and I know what happened last year. And again, that is completely irrelevant to the playoffs. And again, if SOS was as heavily favored last year and they are pushing for in the future, OKST would have made it.

You do realize that change means change right? It wont be the same.

And there is also a lot of SEC bias in the voting, that played a big role also. But the past doesn't matter as its a different scenario.
