Sorry, I don't have any useful suggestions. But I do have this:

I got this desk a few months ago. I've been very happy with it so far. |

We bought a bigass slab of butcherblock from IKEA and ran it across a wall with hidden brackets. Then I attached a few slide out organizers and power cord trays underneath it and put some rolling filing cabinets under it as well. Whole deal for less than $100, and it looks sweet.

Not a great picture (desk is messy and cords are visible, which they aren't normally), but you get the idea. Can barely make out the orange metal filing cabinet on bottom left.

You should search Craigslist for hard to find items like this, or a snappin turtle.

My plan in my home office didn't take shape, but my plan was to build an "L" shaped desk in a corner to the length I wanted out of old barn boards(any recycled wood would look cool) and then pour the top with "bar topper".
I have some old horse stall doors I plan to use for cabinet doors/storage doors. You could do something like that with reclaimed boards from a home demolition, pallet wood, rough cut native lumber(dry it though)..... |
