I am just pointing out where I disagree with you that the NFL isn't a passing league. I think it is obvious that it is. That doesn't mean you stop running the ball. I think the best teams have some semblance of having balance. But you still have to have QB that can make big plays down the field.

Why would one aspire to 09/10 or 10/03? I had no illusions of greatness at either point in time? Heartbreak was in the 90s when the personnel were actually good enough, but choke jobs, jobbing refs, or off days fooked us.

To be fair, I did spend time in fervent prayer in 2003 that the D would somehow pull it's head out of its ass. But it was a desperation plea, not a blindered act of faith. Deep down I know that G-Rob's dumb ass would waste our potent O.

You need to put up points when asked to. And in many instances, it's because you're playing an offensive powerhouse with a shitty defense.

Joe Flacco is 9-4 in the playoffs. He has thrown under 200 yards 7 times. Big Ben is 10-4 in the playoffs. He has thrown under 230 yards 8 times and only has ONE 300+ yard passing game in the playoffs. In Eli's first Super Bowl run, his highest yardage total was 255 yards.

A balanced football team with an efficient QB who makes big plays in big moments is still a terrific model for this modern NFL.

I agree. I just think there is a tremendous misconception that the best NFL model is a wide open offense that puts up a ton of points. In fact, I think these teams have put up a ton of empty wins, while balanced attack teams slide under the radar.

I wasn't talking about elite or non-elite I was pointing out the NFL was a passing league. I thought that was common knowledge but zilla is a doubter.

So what? I mean, that's the mantra, right? Russell Wilson is this "Elite" player already?

As I pointed out earlier, Flacco averaged 238 yards a game last year. Alex Smith is averaging 223 this year.

That's a difference of about 240 yards over the course of a season, much of which Alex will make up for on the ground.

So are you telling us that 240 yards is the difference between a GREAT QB and a pedestrian QB?

I would MUCH rather have Russell Wilson. But let's be clear... that team has a great model built off of running behind Marshawn Lynch, playing stellar defense, and asking Russell Wilson to take what the team gives him.

Yeah, but the key difference is Flacco can uncork one at any moment, and challenges defenses down the field more consistently.
