BFD. You could walk into any Guitar Center and see kids playing that. / Dane

Do you think those guys are playing and singing LIVE? It's a drum machine, MIDI quantized piano and severely tuned vocals. Take away the interesting (and fake) video and the performance is just "meh". |

This. A bland, uninspired, forgettable recording.

Vocal tuning has been around since the late 70's and the first Eventide Harmonizer. But it was extremely difficult and time consuming, so it was done sparingly.
At one point in time Antares Autoune was extremely time consuming as well but with by 2000, computer speed and subsequent advances in operating systems made it so that it was much easier. Once Celemony created Melodyne, all bets were off. With Melodyne, all you need to do is record a vocal, then record it into Melodyne. The notes appear as "blobs" and to tune, all you have to do is Select All and "Tune". Bam! Perfect vocal. |

I prefer David Cooks version.

99.99% of all dance and electronic music feature tuned vocals, which earns millions of dollars for people who otherwise couldn't sing. |

Technically, its not HIS version. Wasn't it Chris Cornell that actually did that? David Cook just made it popular.

Gotta side with the "meh" side on this one. Billie Jean is perfect as is, IMO his best song. I can get down with a cover that doesn't top the original as long as it puts an interesting spin on it, but this didn't do it.
