The Chiefs Called Me Yesterday

One of the PR chicks called me yesterday from a survey I completed on line a few weeks back. She said "Gee Mr Blowfish, you gave us some low marks in some areas of performance. Can you explain that?" I asked her if she had specific questions. We talked for about 20 minutes. Some of the key points:

Parking: it still sucks. $60 a car for the unprepared is rape. $100 for a school bus is worse. Chiefs have micromanaged that situation to death. Parking delays have occurred because of adding "platinum lots" to the mix, making red parking passed worthless and having the "counter clockwise" parking pattern put in place. The Chiefs keep all the $ from parking, it's part of their lease. Jackson County Sports Authority has to pay for all the lot mainentance and cleanup. And if they're not going to build more lots or more entrances into the stadium, at least add more shuttle carts from the far outer lots to the stadium gate. Us older farts hate having to walk 500 yards to and from the stadium, especially in sub freezing weather.

Entrance into Arrowhead: Better this year with all the metal detectors. We'll see if it keeps up once cold weather get here and everybody is bundled up.

Pre-Game: Boring and predictable. Every game is like a Catholic Mass, follows the same script week after week.

Monitizing: Chiefs would sponsor Andy Reid's Morning BM if they could. Just about everything else is sponsored.

Football: She asked me "how to you think the team is doing?" I said "Duh....they're undefeated. Call me some year where they're Oh and Five..."

I also told her STH having to pay regular season prices for pre-season games was robbery. She said "duly noted."

Slightly not nice of you to be like that. You should have just stated that you were pleased with their performance and expressed any minor improvements you felt should be implemented and carried on. So let's work on that for next time.

I'll never understand how they managed to **** up the parking situation as badly as they have. Untold millions of dollars spent to come up with this stupid counter-clockwise disaster, and the times required getting in and out have never been worse. And I'd love to hear some of the interactions between the parking gate workers and those poor bastards who showed up unaware of the gate price increase....

Every year in the Chiefs marketing department they have to draw straws to see who has to call George Blowfish.

That's a crap situation about none of the parking money going back into Jackson County.

Gee, Chiefs, thanks for your 50 United Way volunteer hours and local underprivileged youth football camps. How about you help out with the goddamn bills every once in awhile.

Did you specifically give them your name and give them permission to contact you?

This is my pet peeve about non-professional market research. If it's a survey, your responses should be confidential to the end client to encourage honesty. If the end client calls you up and says, "Let's talk about your responses", then it's not a survey. It's customer feedback that was dishonestly represented as a survey.

The only way you should be contacted is if there was a specific question that asked you to volunteer for an interview (and that's fine if that's the case). But even then, the fact that it's a Chiefs employee calling you tells me that you didn't get confidentiality.

I had a not-so-great experience at a car repair shop once and filled out their survey in an uncomplimentary manner. They called me up and said, "We're looking at your survey here and ...." Boom, that was it. I'd complained about one of their service people, so I knew that I'd get the stinkeye from that guy going forward since my results weren't confidential and were certainly being share with him. I never used that place again, even though my not-so-great visit wasn't a dealbreaker.

They've ruined parking. RUINED IT.

I don't get the parking hate. Yes, admittedly $60 is highway robbery for parking on game day. I also think it is encouraging people to get their passes in advance which in turn makes the lines go faster. $35 for parking is highway robbery but it is what it is. I'm sure other stadiums around the country charge similar rates. It sucks but that's the way things are nowadays. If people weren't willing then they would be forced to lower it.

That last part is a pet peeve of mine. Preseason games suck. No way they should charge full price for a glorified practice where you end up watching a bunch of backups.

Another note about parking, I get there about 3-4 hours prior to kickoff. So, that may be why I have not experienced parking headaches. /shrug
