Dumb idea of the day: Let Alex Smith play out his contract
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2014/4...t-his-contract
A year ago I suggested that Alex Smith should be extended because the price would never be lower. Obviously 99% of the forum was against me, but the deal I suggested would be a bargain today. Now paid writers are literally suggesting to let Alex play it out when there is no chance that the Chiefs could match free agent offers for him. Their defense is that he could get hurt. Wow, and if he gets hurt, who plays QB? Chiefs are screwed either way Best case scenario if we don't extend Alex soon is the franchise tag and that means massively overpaying for another key position |

A year ago you wanted us to Matt Cassell him.
That would have been incredibly dumb regardless of how well he played in his first year. |

And I was laughed at for my suggestion The Chiefs are lucky that Alex is on contract for one more year or the raiders would have offered 15-20 million easy We need to extend Alex TODAY |

Dorsey was smart to take advantage of the two years he had remaining on his contract with the Niners. Now he can extend him for a good price now that the test drive period was a relative success. Your way is just ****ing stupid. |

The tag # right now for QB is 17 mil. LB is 11.45 mil.

Seems extending him now would be wiser than waiting. Unless he gets injured I guess.

The scary part of this equation is that they can only franchise Houston or Smith next offseason.
To me, that is terrifying. |

Aren't you the guy calling for a significant cap increase coming soon? And talking about cutting Hali and Flowers after this season? If we really want to, we could sign both of those guys. |

Justin Houston is gonna be a tough signing. He was the last guy from the whole 2011 draft to sign his rookie deal because he wanted to try and squeeze as much out of it as possible. I EXPECT him to demand the largest contract ever for an OLB and to stick to his guns. No chance he signs for any hometown discount, so you might as well forget about that. I haven't said a word about cutting Flowers or Hali. You have me confused with someone else. I don't think getting Alex Smith signed long term is gonna be an easy task, either. The guy had a very strong second half of the year and postseason performance and looks to have a big year in 2014. With the deals Tom Condon has gotten for his other clients, I EXPECT this place to implode when the details of the deal are announced. Worse than the implosion when it was announced that we traded 2 2s for him. |
