****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

And this is the kind of bullshit I'm talking about.

Who does Franklin/Mauk have to throw to? DGB, Lucas, and Washington. Every one of them is an NFL talent, and DGB might be a top five pick. Jimmy Hunt and Bud Sasser are better receivers than Wes Kemp or Jerrell Jackson. They also have Josey to lean on in the backfield, who is the best back the school has produced in ages.

Who did Daniel have to throw to? Coffman, Rucker, Maclin, Danario, and Will Franklin. All of them spent time in the league. Tommy Saunders had the best hands of maybe any Mizzou WR ever. Tony Temple was no slouch either.

Who did Gabbert have? Michael Egnew, who went from 90 catches to 30 the year after he left. TJ Moe, who did the same. His junior year he had Danario and leaned on him heavily, to the tune of the best season by any WR in school history. Gabbert's junior year he had jack shit on offense and the team still won ten games.

If you put Blaine Gabbert on this team it's undefeated.

****ing morons. The lot.

They have the one loss in OT to a good SC team, but quite frankly maybe that loss has done more for the psyche for this team than being undefeated at this time.

I'm gun-shy no different than you or everyone else.....but I choose to look at this season to be one of the most enjoyable I have seen MU have in years. This was supposed to be a year when MU was going to stumble again, people were planning Pinkel's successor (rightfully so at the time) and we were losing recruits we should have locked.

Now, here we are at the door of possibly going to the CCG....I can choose to look at this game and say this is probably where we falter, or I can say, you know what, this team has surprised me all year, so I owe them a little faith in the team.

I choose the latter.
That's a really good post, and I agree with almost everything you've said, but one can be cautious and still enjoy the moment. What irks me are the people who started booking their flights to Atlanta on October 19, and who treat the game like it's far more predictable than what it really is.

You may be 90% to win the hand, but don't start jumping around until the river card comes.

To excuse Gabbert's failures because he only had Egnew, Alexander, and Moe to throw to is ridiculous. First of all, that is one of the best pass catching trios in Mizzou history. Second of all, it completely leaves out Kemp and Jackson who were solid in their own rights. Third...we had a great rushing attack.

That 2010 team ran for 2100 yards and 28 TDs. Gabbert threw 16 TDs and 9 INTs.

Gabbert was a good QB who could be great or lousy depending on which Blaine showed up on any given day. He was also prone to some of the most brutal brain farts ever.

There is no way I'm willing to say that this team is undefeated with him. We might have swapped outcomes in the GA and SC games, but he had a tendency to crap his pants in big games more often than not.

FFS, we were ranked sixth in the country after beating Oklahoma. Gabbert proceeded to go 30-72 in the next two games throwing for fewer than 200 yards against Nebraska and fewer than 100 against Texas Tech.

Good college QB...I'll take my chances with Mauk.

Oh trust me....I am cautious too. Having witnessed The 5th Down, The Kicked TD, and Tyus Edney's Drive I know that once a year Lucy (Fate) pulls the football out from under Charlie Brown (MU). I am hoping the SC game was that one for us and that the football gods smile down upon us and say we have suffered enough.

Damn, wasn't trying to touch off a Gabbert/Mauk debate or anything.

I think Mauk rivals/is closer to Gabbert in arm strength than Franklin. He's made some throws this year we haven't seen in Franklin's 3 years as a starter.

Think this WR group is probably the best overall since the Rucker/Maclin/Coffman/Franklin group in 2007. Moe/Egnew were good, but didn't really much that much in 2009, Alexander's last year in college.

Come on man. That's the Cassel defense. Even for such a "bad" supporting cast, 16-9 is pretty pathetic. Especially for someone who in your opinion is better than the other QBs of the Pinkel era.

And we'd be undefeated if Franklin started the whole season too. I'm much more confident in that than I would be if Gabbert was the Qb.

This team is excellent because of how diverse Franklin and to a lesser extent Mauk, allow our offense to be, especially in third down situations.

Franklin's abilities as a runner cannot be underestimated. Moreover, he's simply a more accurate passer than Gabbert and he didn't have the inclination to watch the line that Gabbert had.

No, I don't believe for a minute we'd be undefeated with Gabbert under center. It's hard to say he'd have cost us more than a game or so with us so routinely winning these games fairly easily, but I think we'd have a couple of losses on our schedule to this point.

Gabbert's struggles at Mizzou were kind of strange. A lot of times, he would make NFL throws to college WRs against college CBs. Even when he would jam a rocket into a tight window, you still had to worry that it would go right through the receiver's hands.

Franklin can't make those throws, and Daniel wouldn't make those throws. He didn't need to. There is always someone open in college football...wide open. Gabbert focused too much attention on the pass rush (real or imagined) and not enough on his progressions.

Daniel wasn't great because he fit lasers into tiny windows. He was great because he made the correct read and threw the ball on time and on target...over and over and over.

Hey, I don't know if anyone is interested, but I have a ticket to the SEC championship game that I'm willing to sell. Let me know if you're interested and I can get you some info, and I could try to get in touch with some people if you were looking for more than one.

Exactly.

Gabbert watched the line too much. I think your point regarding the progressions is an excellent one. Yeah, Gabbert would occasionally blast a ball into a closing window but oftentimes it was unnecessary. And as a result of getting that tunnel vision, he would often feel phantom pressure and look to unload rather than relax, get a better feel for the pocket and make the smart decision.

I liked Gabbert. I thought he'd make a good pro (after a lot of coaching up), but he was less than the sum of his tools. He simply didn't have the head on his shoulders you wanted to see from a guy that gifted.

I'd be interested assuming it all works out. Any idea on how much you want for the ticket? I'll have to sell the wife on the idea, but... stranger things have happened
