I really don't want to be in here when GoChiefs talks about Phantom of the Opera. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a clown.

I was in several musicals many years ago.
Then all the guys started liking each other a little too much and even though that left all the girls for me, I decided to get the HELL away from that. shudders.... |

Know how I know you're gay?
Just kidding. I love musicals. And shopping for clothes. Does this mean anything? Anyways... Phantom Of The Opera (stage, but film wasn't bad) Les Miserables (stage) Sound Of Music (film) South Pacific (stage and film) Mary Poppins (if that counts) Of course, if you really want to loosen the definition, you can pretty much count every modern Disney animated film as a musical. Most of them are actually being turned into musicals anyway (Lion King, Little Mermaid at the theme parks, Beauty and the Beast). If you overlook the fact that they're animated, as musicals they're extremely well done. Aladdin, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, etc.,. I also like the Buffy musical episode. Should've gotten an Emmy nod, IMO. |

If I had to pick just one, I'd go with Les Mis. JCS a close second, almost too close to call. Gethsemane alone lifts it into the pantheon of all time great, such a perfect meditation on the decision made.
Haven't seen The Lion King though, and I expect it'd be up there. To this day I plunk the opening 'Circle of Life' in the DVD player when I need a pick me up. Couldn't even imagine the power of a live performance.
