****Official 2013-14 Missouri Tiger Football Repository Thread****

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

8/31: Murray State
9/7: Toledo
9/21: @ Indiana
9/28: Arkansas State
10/5:@ Vanderbilt
10/12: @ Georgia
10/19:Florida
10/26: South Carolina
11/2:Tennessee
11/9: @ Kentucky
11/23: @ Ole Miss
11/30: aTm

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

Razors, cyanide capsules, and Jonestown Kool-Aid are available in the break room. Second door on the left.

Since every Mizzou thread eventually dies of AIDS, I recommend starting anti-retroviral therapy immediately. I believe Walgreens covers Express Scripts.

Premium In-State Players:

Roderick Johnson: **** OT, Florissant, MO.
Monte Harrison: **** WR, Lee's Summit, MO.
Jimmy Swain: **** LB, Lee's Summit, MO

Commitment List: From to and possibly

Spoiler!

He's always been held up to a ridiculous double standard. When Chase Daniel throws an inexcusable game ending interception against Okie State no one mentions it again. When Gabbert does the same thing against Iowa it's the worst play in the history of plays.

When Daniel loses to a mediocre-at-best KU team, everyone focuses on Eberflus. When Daniel loses to a really good Nebraska team, it's because he shit his pants.

Maty Mauk completes 52% of his passes with three NFL WRs and suddenly he's a better QB than Gabbert.

It's rank bullshit.
I held Daniel accountable for that game ending pick against the Pokes, man that was crushing. He was frustrating with the interceptions his senior year, by then he had gotten kinda cocky and started making throws he shouldn't have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hadn't Daniel just had his brains turned to soup against Okie State when he threw that pick?

I mean if we're going to give Gabbert a pass for shaking off a concussion a week later, surely Daniel gets a little leeway for suffering one in that game.

Daniel was hurt early in that game IIRC and had surgery following the season.

I don't recall a concussion and it wasn't well publicized but I remember it coming out after the season that he had surgery I think on his throwing hand (thumb) and that it was hurt in the OkSt game.

I can't find anything online to corroborate this and it's possible I'm misremembering some element of the situation.

He took the hardest hit I recall him taking in his college career in that game. He never really recovered from it. He wasn't the same guy from that moment on.

I don't think it was ever diagnosed as a concussion, but he was wobbly getting to the sidelines and ended up throwing 3 picks going forward in that game. I'm honestly not sure he knew what was going in the 2nd half.

Dave Matter wrote an article suggesting that Daniel hurt his thumb and played injured during the 2nd half of the year. I didn't recall it being hurt in the Oklahoma game.

I just remember him getting up with that wide-eyed look after getting detonated midway through the 2nd quarter.

EDIT: According to the MU Trainer, the thumb injury was in the Big 12 Title Game.

Well that explains it, I remember him throwing several picks in that game, it must have ****ed him up because he looked like he regressed from his junior season that year. .

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Injuries would make sense. At the time I chalked up Daniel's disappointing senior season to his mental approach - I thought he'd bought into too much of his own hype.

I remember seeing him come out for the Oklahoma State game with a fauxhawk and thinking we could be in trouble.

It wouldn't matter. Missouri would still most likely be left out if they lost the SECCG.

Daniel never ran the table. Franklin never ran the table. Mauk will likely never run the table. It's incredibly rare, and it takes a special kind of QB who can carry a team at times but also never drags a team down. Gabbert could carry a team for a game, but he was far too prone to disasters.

And the Chase Daniel INT is the play that stands out to me more than any other he made, unfortunately. I never saw it coming. Gabbert's wasn't surprising in the least.
But was Gabbert really prone to disasters? What would happen if you teamed Gabbert up with Christensen or Henson and the skill position players from three years later or sooner? Would you think as poorly of him if he had sat out the Tech game if we had a backup of Mauk's caliber to spell him?

Would you think he was as prone to disasters if Jerrell Jackson didn't let a perfectly thrown ball bounce of his bitchmade face and into the hands of an Iowa DB turning a TD into a pick?

I don't think any MU QB other than Gabbert wins that Oklahoma game. That's still the best team that any Pinkel team has ever beaten, but it gets lost in the shuffle because of how that season ended.
