Star Wars: The Old Republic

Don't believe there's a dedicated thread, and since they're starting to release information now, I figure it's time for one.

Oh, I thought I was missing some Star Wars info regarding Space Slug that somehow made sense in regards to our guild name in a funny way.

A server named "slug" doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I thought it was funny because I remember the iconic server names they had in Beta. And then we get put on "Space Slug"

Wookie Crisps is there with us on server. I am doing a lookup of other guilds on Space Slug to see if it will give us an idea of population right off the bat.

Looks like around 75 listed Republic guilds.
damn and 175 for Empire guilds. I could be off a couple here and there on that.

Also there are a ton of 1 person guilds so they could be balancing on population of guilds and not number of guilds.

Ok on Edit they might still be adding more because I am now scrolling down the list and getting more guilds.

Yeah, but what could fit a Chiefs-related guild better.

There shouldn't be any 1 person guilds. One of the criteria to have your guild placed on a server was that you have at least 4 members who have pre-ordered.

I wonder if there's going to be a huge imbalance in faction populations like there was in WoW.

There probably is, depending on what type of server you're on. PvP servers are expected to be heavily off balance toward the Empire, PvE servers to be slightly off balance toward the Empire and RP servers slightly off balance toward the Republic. Based on information accrued by people who datamined the premade guilds on swtor.com.

Some interesting new stuff:
Quote:
ZAM: One thing that has players - and me - concerned is endgame content and just how robust or deep it will be. Hand in hand with this concern is the fact that, currently speaking, the content quality of SWTOR is very high and it obviously demands a lot of work to complete. Players are worried that if BioWare wants to hit a certain development cycle to keep players interested, something might be negatively affected in the process. Are you confident that you can deliver enough content on time without skimping on quality?

Ohlen:
I think so. Right now, we have a legacy system in place to encourage and reward players for trying out new classes and seeing new storylines. So there's a lot of content there to entertain those players who like to play the "level-up game." On the other hand, there are high-level players who are focused on bringing one character to level 50, and those guys are going to be our main focus for new content. We're going to be producing new flashpoints, new operations, new warzones, and even new single-player content for our highest leveled characters. We already have multiple teams working on that as we speak, and they've got a bunch of flashpoints and operations in the can.

We're also not shrinking the content team at all, and we have a huge content team. Our content team is essentially bigger than… well… I'll just say we have a big content team, how about that! [laughs] We have a very big content team and those guys will continue to work on delivering a regular cadence of high-level content. I can't talk exactly about our delivery schedule, but I can say that within a month of shipping the game, we want to have more high-level content being delivered into the game. We're going to continue to deliver high-level content after that and for the foreseeable future, basically. It's obviously important to us. We want to keep people playing the game, so it's in our best interest to keep doing that.

ZAM: Back on that legacy system. I won't pry too much here, but there wasn't much content during closed beta testing with the legacy system. We just built up levels and got that legacy name. Can you share any of your legacy system plans? Maybe... account-wide items?

Ohlen:
So what we have at launch is the legacy system experience point system. We wanted to let players unlock their legacy early so they could gain legacy experience points from the very beginning. The second stage of the legacy system is when those experience points and legacy levels will give you something. We're already well on the way to producing that stuff. I can't say too much here, but the legacy system will be granting things like new abilities and powers, new privileges, bind-on-legacy items, and things that will benefit all of your characters across your legacy.

The original inspiration for that was because Star Wars has a lot of family in it, so we wanted to do something with it. It's going to be pretty cool. I don't want to spoil anything, but if you see a character who has a high level legacy running by, he's going to be able to do things where you'll say, "Holy crap, what did he just do there? I want to be able to do that!" So I think people will be pretty excited about the legacy system once it comes online.

ZAM: I forget to check this during the testing, but legacies are cross-faction between Empire and Republic?

Ohlen:
Yep! That's the Star Wars thing! Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker!

ZAM: Oh right! That's the iconic legacy of the Star Wars franchise! I can't believe I forgot...

Oh, so pretty much the opposite of WoW. I wonder why so many people are drawn to the dark side?

Because it's a way to tap into your sociopathic tendencies without any kind of repercussions. Basically the same reason so many people turn so douchetastic on the internet. "ooh ooh, i can be evil and shock people with lightning! I want that!"
