Weird. I got 54 as well. The vinyl stuff killed me, as I've never really been into vinyl. I agree that they didn't really account for going deep into a certain band. 1) Seeing them on certain nights 2) Trading for tapes via mail 3) Collecting bootlegs 4) Setting up tape trees 5) Touring around with a band

Same message for me but I checked 7 out of 100. I thought EVERYONE associated certain times of their life with certain music they listened to or heard at the time?

Likewise, although I'd like to get a turntable and a few records at some point. Tapes to CDs to digital. Fixing metadata across the collection is a never-ending project.

I saw Dave Matthews in Munich, Germany at a 300-person venue about 3 months after he released "Under the Table and Dreaming".

One of my buddies was a HUGE Dave Matthews fan and had like 50 bootleg tapes he took with him. When we left for Europe, he was a relative unknown. When we got home that May, he was a platinum artist.

Our turntable connects to a PC via USB and you can rip vinyl straight to MP3/WMA/AAC.

Yep. Every time I acquire a new album or CD, I spend 10 minutes ripping it and 30 minutes correcting/formatting metadata.

You should take a look at Music Brainz Picard. It does a really nice job. I've been trying to remember to run everything through Picard before adding it to iTunes.

There are some vinyl rips in my collection, but generally I try to seek out a better master (typically from other people's comments) before choosing a source format.

I'm interested in having a turntable more because of the "whole experience." When Daft Punk had their little trailer video, it made me really want a copy on vinyl because of the packaging. Same thing for all the modern TOOL albums.

Yeah, I generally only use CDs for my masters. But I have some albums that simply aren't available on CD anymore (if they ever were).

And I agree with you...the #1 reason for having a turntable is the "retro" of it all. It's just cool.

My wife says it sounds better but she's just goofy.

If you buy a CD or record through Amazon, they come with download codes. (Most of the time)

That's too mainstream for me

Honestly, I do try to buy from the indy label or the band directly, which can be a pain in the ass as I've been waiting for stuff from a label since January. My stuff isn't put on cd (I wish it was), so I'm at the mercy of cassette or vinyl, but the experience is cool as well.

I don't buy a lot of music anymore. I just pile shit up in my Amazon wish list and let other people buy it for me.
