Hamilton

So I saw the Hamilton musical last night. I'm not much into theater, but I was pretty impressed. Really clever how they work the history into music and songs, and some pretty funny stuff, too. Assuming it was basically factually true, there was some interesting stuff I wasn't aware of, like how he was extorted over an affair.

Also, I didn't know Hamilton was black, as were all of founding fathers that were in it. Except for Washington, who was a chinaman. King Geoge, portrayed as an effeminate spurned lover, was played by a white guy.

Anyway, I'd give it 4.5 of 5 stars and recommend to all CP DCers

I dunno, I was just told the founding fathers were slave owning white supremacists, and that "cultural appropriation" was bad.

But mainly I was just giving a smartass reply to an obvious bait thread. I don't care too much about Hamilton either way.

Yeah it never really made too much sense why PoC would ever do anything to put the founders of this country in a good light. Hamilton was of Caribbean extraction so I get why Manuel-Miranda saw a connection there.

But it definitely makes no sense whatsoever for leftists to ever engage with such subject matter.

That’s pricey, but a bargain compared to NYC prices. I think you made the right choice. Except for the gum. I’m not a fan of gum.

I'm thinking more like an adult animated movie along the lines of Heavy Metal.

The musical -- which I have not yet seen/heard -- was based on the seminal work on Hamilton written by Ron Chernow, a book which I have read and is (like all of Chernow's work really), completely terrific.

And yes, the affair/extortion thing was a thing.

Someone tells me they went to a concert, sports, a resturant, vacation, some other activity, "How much did it cost?" is just not something that crosses my mind to ask. So, yeah, I think it is kind of odd to ask.

Open your closed ****ing narrow mind and realize maybe they want to bring their wife and a few kids to see it and they can afford $150 but not $600.

That's why people ask douchenozzle!

How the **** do you make your way in life or socialize at a party?

One of the students left the lake early last Saturday to see it, I'm not sure what he thought about it yet, but he seemed pretty giddy to go.
