Someone called and threatened to kill my wife about an hour ago

Someone called my house and said to my wife "Hello.... if you hang up this phone I will kill you". She hung up.

I immediately called Cox who we have our phone service with. Unfortunately we dont have caller ID (even if we did, the number would prolle be blocked anyways). I was told to dial *57 and the number would be trapped and traced. I was then to call the police and the number would be released.

Cox is now refusing to release the phone number to the police officer until tommorow morning. In the meantime I am at home with nothing more than a baseball bat and will be up through the night (or at least sleeping lightly) waiting for some motherfu*ker to try something.

I realize that more than likely it is some punk kid making a prank call, but I'm not willing to bet my wife's life on that.

If using skype though, why us out of all people? Just got lucky with a random number and it was us?

I should mention that's the way Qwest's CID works, I would assume it's the same with Cox.

I've dealt with whackos like this in the past. If somebody makes a threat like that over the phone you should spend about 2 seconds worrying about it. If they make a threat like that while waving a machette in your face, call the doctor. Somebody is going to bleed.

The next time I get a prank call I'm going to flip the hell out like I have to leave my house and fear for my life......because that seems to be what most on the planet would do and by god I need to fit in.

I think alot of the posts in this thread are an extreme overreaction to someone messing with you and laughing about it after they hang up. If they could read this thread they'd probably be laughing uncontrolably hard, I know I would be.

Reading all the comments about spending the night elsewhere made me think this would be a really good way to get people out of the house if you wanted to rob them.

Good luck tho, man. I'm sure it's just a prank.

Obviously a lot of you guys have never gotten threats like this. Statements like "you're overreacting..." and stuff like that. NO, he is not overreacting. Yeah, it's probably a fluke...one out a hundred chance that it is genuine. I have done a lot of counseling. Most are attention getters or sick pranksters.....but the one in a hundred or even a thousand that are serious are enough to take action of protecting your family.

I think the actions are appropriate. If for no reason other than the fact that these sort of actions shouldn't go unpunished. If this prankster does it once and isn't caught, he'll do it again, and again, and that's not something someone should put up with.

And as far as the not sleeping with the bat, I think that's kinda natural whenever you feel violated. I know whenever I got my car broken into, I couldn't sleep, just because my little bubble of safety had been punctured in one way or another.

Also, look on the bright side, at least he didn't call up and get you, and then ASK for her by name...
